Cork Masters SC & Cork Lions Club had a resounding response from competitors and supporters of the Vibes & Scribes Lee Swim 2012. Monies raised through subscriptions and sponsorship cards amounted to € 10,500. Mr. Joe Donnelly, Co-Chairman of the Vibes & Scribes Lee Swim Organising Committee, wishes to express his thanks to all our contributors and sponsors, namely Ms. Joan Lucey of Vibes & Scribes, Cork City Council, the Port of Cork Company, RedFm Local Broadcasting Partner & the ESB. He said: ‘The number of swimmers has been rising steadily since the re-launch of the swim in 2005, when Cork was the European Capital of Culture. We, the Organising Committee, have set ourselves the target of making the Vibes & Scribes Lee Swim 2013 an even bigger participation sports event in the heart of the city.’ Today, it is our great pleasure to present the proceeds of last year’s fund raising to the President of Cork Lions Club, Mr. Kenneth Kling. The partnership between Cork Masters SC and Cork Lions Club in organising the event for the past 8 years has been a very successful one. In addition, the generous sponsorship given by Ms. Joan Lucey of Vibes & Scribes, Cork City Council and the Port of Cork have contributed immensely to the appeal and success of the swim. Using our river as a sporting venue has helped to enrich the sporting calendar of our‘City by the Lee’. Since 2012 new recruits to Open Water Swimming have been found due to the invaluable contribution of Dave Mac of RedFm, who launched the 2013 Vibes & Scribes Red Drive Challenge during the week. Prospective newcomers to the Lee Swim should contact Dave at RedFm to register their interest. A training programme will be made available to everybody who signs on and make this year’s Vibes & Scribes Lee Swim their new goal.
