Course Description Students will develop skills in composition, technique and esthetic sensitivity, and, through close work with the instructor, execute professional quality illustrations in manual and computer techniques. They will begin to understand the world of professional illustration, its relationship to graphic design and learn the value of visual reference.

Apply a knowledge of appropriate and well-executed illustration to solve different graphic design problems. 2. Be able to identify individual worksby artist and be able to identify specifiedstyles and media. 3. Demonstrate professional behavior and responsibility in class.

Program Context Graphic designers work with and commission imagery of many kinds, and must understand the principles which make effective images and compositions. Techniques and principles learned here will apply to projects in other courses.

We deal with tools, processes and materials that are dangerous if not handled professionally. Please ensure that the first aid box is properly stocked and report any and all accidents to the instructor.
Attendance and Participation In this course, you are required to attend 80% of classes and critiques. Late arrival to or early departure from class so as to miss a significant portion of the lecture or critique will be considered an absence. Critique participation will count toward 30% of each project grade. To receive full credit for critique participation a student will: • Be present and participate for the full critique session • Have assigned components • Follow previous critique input • Get instructor approval at specific stages of projects before proceeding.
