FLOATING EGG DEMO

BEAKER 1 – Fill with distilled water and place a raw egg in the beaker. (Egg will sink— more dense than the distilled water)

BEAKER 2 – Fill with saturated salt solution and place raw egg in the beaker. (Egg will float – less dense that the salt solution) ****( To make the saturated salt solution, add salt to distilled water while stirring until the salt will no longer dissolve. Decant and save the liquid. The liquid (saturated salt solution) will need to sit over night to be clear like the distilled water.

BEAKER 3 – Place saturated salt solution on the bottom and carefully layer the distilled water on top of the saturated salt solution. Place the raw egg in the beaker. (Egg will float at the interface of the solution and distilled water.

****Be sure to get the levels of the liquids in the beakers equal.
