Health & Safety Assurance Officer Role Title:

Department: Assurance, Governance & Contract Directorate, Bath Row

Role Purpose: To support the strategic health & safety lead to the Group, in ensuring that the Group is compliant with all relevant health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice.

To assist in the effective delivery of the Health & Safety Strategy.

To assist in effectively managing the strategic external partner, ensuring contract performance against key performance indicators

Key Role As the support officer to the Group Health & Safety Assurance Responsibilities Manager, ensure that the Group is compliant with all relevant health & safety legislation, guidance and best practice through effective liaison and monitoring.

Health & Safety Strategy

To build effective internal and external stakeholder relationships which promote a positive health and safety culture, coaching and enabling managers, staff and partners to take full ownership for their health and safety responsibilities.

To support the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager in the development and implementation of Midland heart’s health and safety systems and processes to ensure they are streamlined, pragmatic, sensible, risk based and compliant with best practice.

Actively review health & safety strategies, policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date and compliant with legislative requirements and industry best practice.

To produce as directed by the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager, performance data and analysis to contribute to reports for Board and Committees.

To undertake thematic audits and inspections at establishments, providing clear and concise working papers, making pragmatic Last Updated: 09 June 2017 (V2) Last Updated by: RN recommendations and undertaking follow up activity.

To assist in the delivery of the communications and engagement plan as directed by the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager.

To provide coaching to managers in undertaking health & safety investigations as they arise; and in exceptional cases, to undertake such investigations; in accordance with legislative requirements / best practice as directed by the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager.

To keep up to date with industry best practice, changes in regulatory requirements and industry standards and ensure that these are translated and disseminated across the business.

To assist the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager in the delivery of the all staff routine health & safety engagement survey.

Effectively Manage the Strategic External Partner

To assist in the production of monthly contract management information relating to the strategic external partner as directed by the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager.

To assist in the monitoring of spend against budget and ensure all invoices are logged and processed accordingly

Other

To deputise for the Group Health & Safety Assurance Manager in their absence.

To deliver other assurance activity as required, for example supporting the Director of Assurance in audit / investigations / enquiries as directed.

Education, NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent in relevant discipline. Qualifications and Training

Knowledge and Sound knowledge of health & safety legislation and best practice Experience and its practical application. Operational experience within a health & safety function within a large organisation preferably within the housing / construction sector. Experience of enabling effective internal and external stakeholder relationships which promote a positive health and safety culture, coaching and enabling, managers, staff and partners to take full ownership for their health and safety responsibilities. Experience of producing performance management information within a health & safety function.
