College Overview
Ercall Wood Technology College, with 620 students, is one of several secondary schools serving the market town of Wellington in North Telford. We serve a very diverse community and around 26% of our students receive free school meals.
Having enjoyed Technology College status for the past 15 years we can offer a strong technological focus. The specialism has facilitated significant investment across the school, although this is particularly evident in Science, Mathematics, Design Technology and Information Communication Technology. All subjects within the college now enjoy access to outstanding ICT facilities; we encourage all staff to use ICT as a tool to aid the learning process.
The college holds many national awards including: A Specialist Technology college Leading Edge Partnership School and former Beacon School Three Achievement Awards from the DfE Three Charter Marks for Excellence Awards Three Investors in People Awards Two Investors in Careers Award Sports Mark Award Healthy Schools Award National Befriending Society Accreditation SSAT Outstanding Continuous Improvement Award – June 2012
This year 51% of students achieved 5 A*- C including English and Maths. This has maintained an upward trend we have seen over the last 4 years. In August we anticipate exceeding this key headline to break 60%.
The college is unique in its provision for students with special education needs in that it caters for 38 statemented children and has a national reputation for its work with dyslexic students.
In June 2012 Ofsted found the school to be Satisfactory with many good features, in particular, Leadership and Management was judged good.
The following observations from the June 2009 inspection encapsulate the healthy and successful ethos of Ercall Wood.

This is a pro-active school with a desire to achieve excellence. We have benefited from high quality partnerships with parents, governors and local industry which we are keen to extend.
Contracts have been signed for a new build under the Building Schools for the Future programme. This is a very exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new vision for pedagogy and practice, in state of the art facilities, where you will get the chance to contribute to the design of learning facilities. It is scheduled for completion September 2014.
Through a focused and rigorous School Improvement Plan, Ercall Wood Technology College has set itself on a trajectory of improvement which will ensure that all students achieve or exceed their expected rate of progress across the curriculum. We have achieved this through the development of a culture that recognizes the expertise of professionals, celebrates excellence and demands the highest standards from all in the school.
This creates an environment for “outstanding” teaching and learning to flourish through an innovative curriculum that removes the barriers of learning for every student. The achievement of this vision is embodied in the aspirational student outcomes set for 2013-1014, which will ensure Ercall Wood Technology College is an “outstanding” school.
We are committed to establish an inclusive ethos and culture built upon mutual respect, support and ambition, allowing all to achieve in a safe and secure environment for learning. We believe that all members of our community should come here to enjoy their experience and that this will ultimately lead to success for all.
We are looking to recruit staff who share our belief that effective outcomes are built on a foundation of positive relationships and an enthusiasm for learning. In return you will benefit from a school dedicated to provide an effective and happy environment for all.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our school, I look forward to receiving your application.
