I am the President of Visual Awareness, Inc. We are a research company that has developed a software program that can very accurately determine attentional problems in senior citizens and others with cognitive impairment (i.e., those who have suffered stroke or trauma brain injury). Much of the research correlates the attentional declines identified through our test with future automobile crash involvement. We have also developed software rehabilitation programs that can, in most cases, remediate attentional declines associated with the aging process and assist in the recovery of cognitive impairments caused by stroke or head trauma.

Our product has been heavily funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute on Aging (approximately $20 million). We are currently in year 4 of a 5-year clinical trial on the rehabilitation component of our program.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life of senior citizens and others with cognitive impairment. We are talking with top insurance companies in the country who are very enthusiastic about the program.

Our challenges include: (1) how to motivate seniors to take our test; and (2) determining the best delivery systems for seniors.

We believe our challenges would provide an excellent marketing research project for students looking for an intellectual challenge that can, if implemented well, produce tremendous benefits for a large segment of the senior population.
