2014-2015 CDMS/LMS Musical

Informational Meeting: Tuesday, October 14

 Welcome & Introduction of Musical Staff  BYE, BYE BIRDIE (Young Performers’ Edition) is a story set in the 1950’s about Conrad Birdie, an Elvis type rock ‘n’ roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. For publicity, his agent, Albert, devises a lottery to find one girl for Conrad to kiss goodbye on national TV. This is an exciting, newly-released version tailored for middle school aged performers.  Dates o Performance Dates: Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 PM; Friday, March 13 at 7:00 PM; Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 & 7:00 PM. o Audition Dates: (2:40- 4:30) Monday, October 20, Wednesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 23. SIGN UP FOR ONE NIGHT TONIGHT o Call Back dates: (2:40-4:30) Monday, October 27th  Auditions o Auditions will consist of Dialogue, Music and Dance. A dance video is on the website. There are several videos on YouTube of the audition song, ‘Put on A Happy Face .’ o The cast will be selected based on the performances at auditions, not the years of training they have had or past musical experiences. o Cast list posted on Friday, October 31st. o The cast size will be approximately 75 students. o Leading roles (9) will be double casted with 2 performances by each cast. Leads will still be in the musical in another role on their “off” night. o Tech, stage crew and costume crew will be needed also, but not until January of 2015. Details will follow at a later date.  Rehearsals & Expectations o LMS students will take the shuttle bus that leaves from LMS at the end of the day to CDMS o The late bus will run after rehearsal from CDMS. Any student who doesn’t have a ride at the time of the late bus departure will be sent home on the bus. o Website will update the changes on cast list, rehearsal schedules and other important information. (CDMS site, then under Music and Theater) o Rehearsal schedules will not include all parts at every rehearsal. As the show approaches, there will be more rehearsals. Students are responsible to know what practices they must attend. o Students are required to attend all rehearsals (we understand illness and unavoidable circumstances). Every effort should be made to attend all rehearsals 2 weeks before the show. o If a student is missing practice due to some unavoidable circumstance, the musical staff must be notified prior to the practice. o Students in the musical must maintain good grades. o If a family trip/vacation is scheduled the week before the show, the students should not audition. o The school will provide some costumes, however, parents may need to provide some accessories or simple clothing.  Example of Musical Contract and Expectations

Musical Contract Statements I will uphold I agree to attend every rehearsal or crew call for which I am part of. I agree to arrive at every practice on time (2:40-4:30p.m.). I will be responsible to CHECK THE REHEARSAL CALENDAR FOR DIFFERENT PRACTICE TIMES. IF THERE ARE UNAVOIDABLE CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE, THEY WILL BE POSTED ONLINE AND ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE AT EACH SCHOOL. Lead parts will have several separate rehearsals. STUDY and KNOW your part. I will also be picked up promptly from rehearsals at the back entrance and if my ride is not there by 4:40 I will be put on the bus with no exceptions. I will be respectful to all adults and fellow cast members. I will treat my script/music with pride. If I ruin it, or any props I will have to pay for it. I WILL ALSO KEEP THE AUDITORIUM AREA CLEAN. I will not bring any food/drink to rehearsals with the exception of water. I will have a good attitude and do my best. I will maintain passing grades in my classes and exhibit good behavior. I will make every effort to not miss any rehearsals 2 weeks before show night. I will bring my script, pencil, props/costume etc. that I am instructed to have with me. In addition, I should BRING SOMETHING TO DO during practice when not in scene. I understand that excessive absence from rehearsals (3+) will result in the understudy taking my role or being pulled from a song. Being in a Musical can be lots and lots of fun, but there is also a lot of work involved and there must be a commitment from the students and parents to make the show a success. We look forward to a great production of

as we combine CDMS/LMS students for the best middle school show yet.
