ALERRT ACTIVE SHOOTER Level 1 Training Announcement
The Watervliet Arsenal Law Enforcement & Security Division In conjunction with other State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies will conduct an ALERRT Level 1 Active Shooter course on the following dates:
Class Number 1/1 - ALERRT Level 1 Dates: October 2nd & 3rd, 2017 Times 0745 Registration & Check in Course 0800-1600 daily Class Size: 24 Police Only
Class Number 2/1 – ALERRT Level 1 Dates: December 4th & 5th, 2017 Times 0745 Registration & Check in Course 0800-1600 daily Class Size: 24 Police Only
Class Number 3/1 – ALERRT Level 1 Dates: February 5th & 6th, 2018 Times 0745 Registration & Check in Course 0800-1600 daily Class Size: 24 Police Only
Location: Watervliet Arsenal, 1 Buffington Street, Watervliet, NY 12189 Classroom: Bldg 40-1, 2nd Floor.
Course Description: This ALERRT Level 1 course addresses technical aspects of planning and implementing a rapid law enforcement deployment to an active shooter incident. As such, it provides detailed information through classroom presentations, hands-on, performance-based field training, and scenario-based practical exercises. Course Content:
History and Characteristics of an Active Shooter Incident. Hostage Barricade vs. Active Shooter. Preparing for Terrorism in the U.S. Weapons Manipulation. Threshold Evaluation. Team Movement Techniques. Setting Up for and Conducting Room Entries. Improvised Explosive Devices and Casualty Extraction Tactics Approaches to the Crisis Site and Breaching Options Post-Engagement Priorities of Work (Security, Immediate Action Plan, Medical) Scenario Based Practical’s Written Test and Administration
All participants are required to bring their duty belt, ballistic vest, long sleeve shirt or jacket, gloves to class each session. Officer-issued weapons, both primary and secondary, are not required for this course.
A COMPLETE SAFETY CHECK WILL BE DONE PRIOR TO EACH SESSION. Each officer is responsible for properly securing his or her weapon(s) during the training course. No personal or agency weapon (including impact and less-than-lethal weapons), live ammunition, weapon magazines, or flash bangs or any other less than lethal items are to be on the officer or in the training area (including classroom) at any time during this course.
NOTE* The Watervliet Arsenal has a weapons storage area for use during the training.

There is NO cost for the course.
The WVA will provide all the training equipment necessary for participation and completion of this course.
This course is comprised of several activities requiring physical exertion. This includes a great deal of time walking, jogging and standing, as well as the negotiation of stairwells between multiple floor levels. Some of this activity may be conducted in low-light conditions. Accordingly every student should be aware of this and consider self-exclusion if he/she has concerns about their physical condition or suffers from any health or other physical abnormality that may place them at risk during periods of significant physical exertion.
Audience: You must be a certified Police/Peace Officer, or eligible Military Personnel, who is authorized to carry a firearm in the course of his/her duties to attend this course. You must also be a U.S. citizen or have prior approval. The Watervliet Arsenal reserves the right to determine eligibility for this course. A 100% identification check will be conducted prior to entering post.
