TOMMIE SINGLETON is the Director of Consulting for Carr Riggs & Ingram, a large regional public accounting firm. His duties involve forensic accounting, business valuation, IT assurance, and service organization control engagements. He is responsible for recruiting, training, research, support, and quality control for those services and the staff that perform them. He is also a former academic. He taught at several universities from 1991 to 2012. Prior to obtaining his Ph.D. in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi, he was president of a small value-added dealer of accounting information systems using microcomputers for eleven years. His education and experience are a mix of Information Systems and auditing. Dr. Singleton has earned his CISA, CPA, CITP, CGEIT, and CFF certifications. He has published numerous articles and co-authored books on IT auditing and fraud, including “Fraud Auditing and Forensic Accounting”, 4th edition. He has made many presentations on the same subjects, including numerous CPE seminars and training sessions. Dr. Singleton is a member of the AICPA, ASCPA, ACFE, IIA, ISACA, and AAA. He was awarded the “1998-1999 Innovative User of Technology Award” by the Alabama Society of CPAs. He also served the ASCPA as the president of the Birmingham Chapter (2008-2009), member of the Education Committee (2001-2008), and council member (2009-2011). Dr. Singleton served on the AICPA’s Information Technology Executive Committee from 2008-2011, the AICPA’s Cyber Security Task Force (2012-2013), and as Coordinator for the AICPA’s two IT audit schools from 2009 until the present. He also has been the column editor for “IT Audit Basics” column of ISACA Journal since 2006.
