MS Thesis Coherence enhancement diffusion filters are the one which have control on the size/ shape of the filter but, the use of derivative for rotation matrix is not considered as a reliable method. In this work a new and a reliable method, Multi-scale Decimation free directional filter bank, is introduced to explicitly calculate the orientation field of a fingerprint image. Multi-Scale DDFB adaptively changes the local neighborhood size with the image local contrast and feature width. In this way an optimal orientation estimate is obtained with the characteristics of noise robustness and feature localization. From the Error analysis it is observed that this new Multi-scale based orientation is more reliable and less noise sensitive as compared to previous Gaussian derivative based methods.
