Oklahoma State Director Report Southwestern Regional Leadership Conference Kansas City, MO April 4-7, 2013

Introduction: I bring you greeting from the great state of Oklahoma. We have made great strides to make all of our members aware of their obligations to PBS. At the State meeting held in Norman, OK participation was great. I still believe some have the mindset of belonging to a chapter instead of the organization as a whole. This year our chapters provided many hours of service to our communities. I believe our local partnerships and brothers commitment to serve will ensure awareness of our service. Oklahoma is like many of our states working toward Alumni brothers’ participation. I know we have many members who have the knowledge and experience living in our cities. The question is how we lure them back to Sigma to serve the community and young collegiate brothers. Am I my brother’s keeper? Yes I am we must answer.

Accomplishments: The year we have continued with our mindset of one event large participation. We must change our thoughts on the importance of everyone’s time. Many of our members are working longer hours so we have to think out of box on programs.

 Oklahoma Chapters were able to provide over Fifty Thanksgiving Baskets throughout the state.

 Increased membership over 2011.

 Held semi-annual meeting with all chapter presidents and other officers.

 The Sigma Saturday School Educational Program at Marcus Garvey Leadership Charter School

 Personalize License plates were issued in the state

 Host to 1st Vice-President – Bro. Joshua A. Busby Member of Delta Beta Sigma Chapter

Objectives:

 To make sure all chapter are filling out their PIA & CSAF documenting their service work in community.

 Establishing an undergraduate chapter at Northeastern University in Tahlequah, OK. .

 Have every chapter in the state registered for Regional and Conclave conferences for 2012 & 2013.

 Increase membership in Alumni and Collegiate chapters.

 To work on Collegiate membership transition to Alumni Chapters.

Recommendations:

 Chapter officers and members must have an understanding that they must promote the

 We must continue to have members to be active in projects that advance our presence in the community where our chapters are located.

 The National office or officers must identify why our inactive brother are not financial.

Recommendations:

 Develop plans to raise money to pay for membership dues.

 We must utilize all payment methods used today for payment of dues. (Square card reader for phones or tablets).

Conclusion: The brothers in Oklahoma suffered a major loss to our state. The Honorable August J. Marigny, DSC # 134 passed on to the Omega chapter July 30th. The brothers would like to thank the International office, DSC Chapter National and Regional as well as the SW Region. Your kind words and expressions meant so much to all that knew and loved him. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity has improved in service and brotherhood. The alumni members of our organization must develop mentor programs with our collegiate. We must continue to reach out to our brothers of other states and utilize their strengths. I will continue to work with chapter advisors and membership to gain proper processes that works.

I have watched the Southwestern Region grow and become a force in the fraternity. The state of Oklahoma has the desire and drive to help the SW Region become the best region in our fraternity.
