1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO SALUTE THE HONORABLE JAMES P. “SONNY” DAVIS 12 ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM HONEA PATH TOWN 13 COUNCIL AND TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR HIS MANY 14 YEARS OF COMMITTED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE 15 TOWN OF HONEA PATH. 16 17 Whereas, for many years, the Town of Honea Path has enjoyed the 18 benefit of the commitment, experience, and leadership of the 19 Honorable James P. “Sonny” Davis, member of Honea Path Town 20 Council, who recently retired after seventeen years of faithful 21 service; and 22 23 Whereas, during his term of service, former Councilman Davis 24 served as mayor pro tem and missed only one town council 25 meeting, demonstrating a dedication to his duties that flowed forth 26 from a desire to return the blessing to the town he loves; and 27 28 Whereas, Sonny Davis believes strongly in active community 29 involvement, and he has put his convictions into action by serving 30 his community in various capacities. Mr. Davis led the Town of 31 Honea Path in organizing litter pickup and recycling efforts and 32 actively assisted with town events such as the Sugarfoot Festival, 33 the Recreational Program, and Honea Path Christmas Parade. The 34 latter was his favorite event as it allowed him to see the 35 townspeople and distribute hundreds of stuffed animals and candy 36 to children in attendance; and 37 38 Whereas, in addition, Mr. Davis, who worked at BASF in 39 Anderson for more than thirty years as a safety coordinator, was 40 active in countywide leadership meetings, always watching for 41 streetlight outages and needed road improvements, seeking grant

[4721] 1 1 opportunities, and making himself available to residents of “the 2 little town with the big heart”; and 3 4 Whereas, this man of faith also serves as a deacon and trustee of 5 First Baptist Church in Honea Path and, in recognition of his many 6 years of service to his town, was recently recognized as 2017 7 Citizen of the Year by the Honea Path Civitan Club; and 8 9 Whereas, Sonny Davis always has found strength for his labors in 10 the strong support of his family: his beautiful wife, Glenda Fisher 11 Davis; their two delightful daughters; and their two charming 12 granddaughters; and 13 14 Whereas, appreciative of the legacy of consistent excellence and 15 dedication Sonny Davis has bestowed on the people of South 16 Carolina, most particularly those of Honea Path, the House takes 17 great pleasure in wishing him all the best in the days ahead. Now, 18 therefore, 19 20 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 21 22 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 23 by this resolution, salute the Honorable James P. “Sonny” Davis 24 on his retirement from Honea Path Town Council and express 25 gratitude for his many years of committed service to the people of 26 the Town of Honea Path. 27 28 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 29 the Honorable James P. “Sonny” Davis. 30 XX 31
