1. Minutes of previous meeting held 15th April 2015 were approved by EC and seconded by BK

2. Matters arising for action.

4.1 MC – update on progress with rubbish problem behind pub.

The rubbish has been cleared and burnt though the site still requires some further clearing of items of debris.

4.3 MC – update on paving at bus stop.

MC reported that he has received notification of a scheme being in place to provide hard standing and kerbs though he has no information regarding the timescale for the work.

4.6 MC – update on tidying up of car park and timescale for landscaping works at Westwinds.

MC reported that he had been informed that the repairs and clearing up of the car park would be carried out in the next couple of weeks. With regard to the landscaping work, the owning company ‘Arrowhead’ is in administration and Peter Green is not having any success in receiving replies to queries. MC will check on progress.

4.7 MC – update on recycling issues.

MC reported that he had contacted Fiona Munro with regard to additional information leaflets etc. LC reported that she had received these and they have been given to HA for distribution to the holiday properties concerned.

3. BEG report

Notes from BEG meeting on 5th May 2015

This impromptu planning meeting was held as heavy rain prevented any outside work being done.

Present - LC, PL, BK, HA

Apologies – LS

3.1. The entry form for the Floral Gateway competition and other community awards was discussed. It was decided that all community awards are applicable to the work and activities that have been on going over the past year.

Specific notes about what will be included in our entry are available and will be finalised after further discussions.

3.2. Butterfly Walk – Contact will be made with Iain Cowe to see what help/facilities may be needed for this event.

3.3. A shopping trip to purchase plants with the £100 donation was arranged for the following Friday morning.

Update – 4 Escallonia shrubs and 6 Hebes were purchased and have now been planted at the top of the brae.

3.4. It was noted that many of the other groups are holding fundraising sales of plants and this is something that we could perhaps consider organising next year. Many residents of the village have already provided some plants but more residents are to be encouraged to donate any excess plants from their own gardens as these plants will already have survived/adapted to the conditions of the area.

3.5. The boat planters and large planters were discussed. They are all looking fine at the moment but the spring bulbs are all dying off. Extra troughs are to be purchased for the boat planters and individual members will plant these up in readiness for replacing the troughs containing the bulbs. It is hoped to keep a continuous show of colour going at a reasonable cost by using small plants and bringing them on in the troughs before placing them in the planters.

3.6 The progress of the possible tarmacking of the area at the top of the brae was discussed. Whilst working on this area it was noted that cars were driving/parking over the perimeter of the planted area. The possibility of funding to provide a parking area for visitors had been discussed and investigated and we are hopeful of funding from the ‘Smugglers Trail’. Awaiting reply from SBC as permission to do the work will have to be given and work carried out by them.

4. Cllr Cook Report

MC reported that the electronic signs on the A1 will now be used to convey ‘No Litter’ messages.

MC commented how helpful Scottish Water had been in changing the date of the proposed works which required the turning off of the water to a large section of the village, including the hall, when it was highlighted that this was Election Day.

5. Police Report

During the month of April the following incidents occurred in the village:

Following a road check on the A1 at Burnmouth a motorist was cautioned and charged with using mobile phone whilst driving.

Vehicle stopped on the A1 at Burnmouth. Driver had no insurance. Vehicle was seized, and driver charged.

Male reported to having carried out a threat towards another male within the village with a stick. Male was warned and no further police action was taken.

More frequent speed checks will be carried out in the village as more officers are trained in the use of speed gun.

6. Correspondence

All e mails have been forwarded and other correspondence as previously mentioned.

7. Any Other Business

7.1 As there is no CC Meeting held in July an alternative date/venue was discussed for the 50/50 Club Prize Draw. It was agreed that the draw would take place in the First and Last Pub – date to be confirmed at next meeting.

7.2 PL presented a splendid information poster which she had designed which is to be posted in the new noticeboard. The cost of the example poster was £8 and a final, laminated poster will cost £20. All present expressed their appreciation of the work done and agreed to these costs.

8. Date of next meeting 17th June 2015

The Meeting concluded at 8.40pm
