NC STEP GARLAND LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING No 10 AGENDA Monday May 20, 2013 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Garland Community Leadership Team Mission: The NC STEP Leadership Team of Garland NC strives to unite and empower its community by promoting economic growth, development, and entrepreneurship while preserving its history, and natural resources, and enhancing its quality of life for all citizens

3. Announcements – Reports 4. Draft Community Vision Review & Approval 5. Strategy Committees Project Discussion Strategy I. Business Support: Support and assist existing and new local businesses, agriculture, industries, and services, in order to provide more jobs and higher income for local citizens. Ensure that there is a sustainable, trained workforce for all businesses.

Examples of projects that could fit under this headings: I. Grants loans for equipment, inventory. Training programs. Activities to attract more business. Joint sales events. Working with businesses to find assistance. Set up local business committee. Visit/ Survey businesses to determine needs.

Strategy II. Property Improvement & Management Support: Support, assist, and encourage property owners to improve, actively manage, and continually maintain their buildings. Assist owners in putting vacant and underutilized real estate assets back into productive use. Also encourage renovation and maintenance of, homes, yards, public areas, and community infrastructure.

Examples: Building improvement matching grants, program to market vacant buildings for sale and rent. Recognition programs for improved property.

Strategy III. Investment & Resident Attraction: Develop a Garland “Quality Of Life” brand, facilities, amenities, and programs that will attract new investment, regional families, retirees, shoppers, and visitors to Garland; and help retain younger citizens.
