Music Project for Economics

Name ______

Music project for Economics

Whether you are a casual listener or a serious music student you realize the importance of music in every culture. Upon closer evaluation music is mirror image of what a society values most. It can also be a reflection of the turmoil that a society is currently experiencing. This is very evident in the 1960’s were we have many songs that question the conservative values of the past. When you look at the song lyrics you soon realize that they are a reflection of the social order. Since Economics is such an essential part of every society it would stand to reason that it is reflected in our music. We have learned many new concepts in Economics so far and I would like you to apply what you have learned. You will to choose a song that you feel demonstrates several economic concepts. You will then write a 1-2 page essay using the terminology learned in class and discuss why the song demonstrates the principles chosen. (See the attached example) I encourage you to be creative both in the essay and in identifying songs. Please be cautious to avoid those songs that contain offensive or obscene language.
