Graphing With Excel 2007

1. Enter data in Excel Worksheet. 2. Without selecting the data, pick Insert → Scatter (no lines)

3. Click on Chart to select. 4. Move Chart away from data table so it will not interfere with the following steps. 5. Go to Chart Tools a. Select the Design Tab

a.ii. Click Add – you will see the Edit Series Box

a.iii. Click on the little box that looks like a spreadsheet with a little red arrow beside Series name

a.iv.1. Go to the spreadsheet and select the series name – in this case, I selected Pre-1982 a.iv.2. Click on the little box that looks like a spreadsheet with a little red arrow to return to the full box a.v. Now click the box for the Series X values a.v.1. The box will again minimize a.v.2. Put your cursor over the first cell you want to include for X values. a.v.3. Right click, hold and move the mouse down to select the entire range for X a.v.4. Click on the little box that looks like a spreadsheet with a little red arrow to return to the full box a.vi. Repeat for the Series Y Values a.vii. You should see Data Points on your Chart. a.viii. Click OK to return to the Select Data Source Box a.ix. Repeat steps ii to vii for the Post 1983 Pennies b. Select the layout tab b.i. Use Chart Title to insert a title b.ii. Use Axis Titles to label axes (include units) b.iii. Use Gridlines to get lines on graph as desired. 6. For a “Line of Best Fit” Go to Layout → Trendlines select Linear Trendline 7. To change the color of the lines go to Format a. Make sure the current selection is Series “Pre-1982” Trendline b. Use the Shape Styles box to select color and thickness of line.

Select the Chart and print, as you would any other item

Choose the “As an Object In” selection 5. Note – Must have chart selected to get Chart Menu 6. Go to Chart → Add Trendline Best Fit Line 7. Select Linear Trendline Smooth Curve 8. Select Moving Average Period = 2. 9. Go to Chart → Source Data a. Name Series b. Add/Change Data c. To make any modifications to data range, etc. d. To add an additional line – Add – specify data range for each axis e. Edit to change data information or legend. 10.To Find Slope – Select Insert → Function 11.Type in slope to select 12.Select the ranges for the x and y values for the slope calculation 13.Can adjust to correct significant figures with the Number Command on the Home Tab 14.Printing – Select graph and print.
