Monitor Grades, School Attendance and Behavior

East Side Neighborhood Services has an opening for a part time (20 hours per week) Bi-Lingual Youth and Family Liaison. The Youth and Family Liaison will provide outreach and support to youth in grades K-12 who have been referred to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office be@school program for educational neglect or truancy. The Youth and Family Liaison will work closely with parents to increase their involvement in their child’s education, providing support, advocacy and referrals to community resources. Primary duties include conducting intakes, monitoring attendance, academics and behavior, and providing individual and group services.

Major Duties:  Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with participants throughout their involvement in the program.  Conduct regular school and home visits to assess the strengths and needs of children and families.  Monitor grades, school attendance and behavior.  Maintain a case load of approximately 25-30 youth and families.  Develop strong working relationships with parents and guardians.  Work with families to identify and monitor goals to increase school success and self-sufficiency.  Support families to understand and navigate the school and county system effectively.  Coordinate and co-facilitate family engagement sessions which may include: leading group discussions, facilitating intergenerational family activities, coordinating guest speakers, etc.  Build an extensive network of supportive services and programs to assist participants in the accomplishment of their goals, including: mental health, housing, healthcare, out-of-school time youth programs, etc.  Maintain and complete all necessary forms in youth files as outlined by the be@school program.  Keep daily notes and track all activities.  Complete regular data entry into the Basil and Client Track database systems.  Transport self to program related off-site locations.

Qualifications: Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field such as Social Work, Education, Psychology, or Child Development.  At least two years of related experience providing intake, assessment, and case management services to children and families.  Must be able to read, write and speak Spanish or Somali fluently. Other Qualifications:  Reliable, Insured Automobile and Valid Minnesota Driver’s License with safe driving record.  Understanding of positive youth development and effective professional practices.  Strong organizational, tracking, documentation, and filing skills.  Persons of Color encouraged to apply.  Ability to work effectively with ethnically, racially, and economically diverse persons.  Communicates effectively in oral and written forms.  Handles confidential information appropriately, and sets appropriate limits on personal and professional boundaries.  Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and can readily develop proficiency with online MIS applications relevant to job.

The pay rate $21.00-$23.00 hourly, depending on qualifications. East Side offers a Defined Contribution Pension plan with 5% employer contribution and a generous PTO policy.
