1. Called to Order at 9am.

2. Approval of Minutes. Approved.

3. Presidents’ Report --Thanks to everyone who came today. Introduced the Board. --Many ways to get involved: Leading an event, planning an event, volunteering in the library, etc. List of all volunteer opportunities and committees on the HSA website. --Had a successful kickoff with the Back to School Teachers luncheon, the Kindergarten Social, the Welcome Coffee and the 1st Day Flash Playdate. Next events are --Overview of TIC TOC program. TIC TOC is “To introduce culture to our children.” There are opportunities to take pictures/paintings off the walls in the hallway (provided by TIC TOC) and do a session in your childs classroom. Just set up time with the teacher. Kids love it! Signups will be available at BTS night. --Still looking for chairpeople for Coleman Pool Party, Laptops at Lunchtime, Spring Social Fundraiser and Habitat Day. Please reach out to Allisan/Laurie if you are interested. --GaGa court is coming in a few weeks on the 5th grade playground.

4. Corresponding Secretary Report --Thanks to the class parents for volunteering and for bringing in items for the welcome back coffee. Class parents have gotten their class lists and can start communicating. Bring list to back to school night so parents can make corrections/changes. Should start asking for contributions for parties and class gifts.

5. Webmaster report --All sales are completed through the website: Movie night, Pizza Day, Sandwich Day, Kidstuff, Octoberfest, etc. --You must be a member and purchase your membership before you can order anything off the website. --Kindergarten families and other new families in different grades were contacted to highlight the opportunities to join the HSA. Class parents should please send a reminder to everyone to go to the website and create an account.

6. Treasurer’s Report: --Provided final budget from last year and updated version for this year. --Last year we made $28K over expenses, allowing for wish list items. --Wishlist funding went towards Laptops (12), Artists in Residency, 5 Standing Desks, a Gaga court, and full funding of the 2018 Circus Camp. There are some funds left over that might be used towards fans for the teachers, if we can get that request approved. --Current budget reviewed. 1. Teacher’s Report --Great start to the school year. Teachers and students are settling in. --Upcoming author/illustrator visit for grades 1-5 with a Caldecott Medal Winner for Illustration. Need to hand in orders by the end of the week. --Mention Coleman school when you shop at the Curious Reader, b/c purchases help put money into an account for new books for the Learning Center. --Staff thanks the HSA for their welcome luncheon.

2. Principal’s Report --Thanks to the everyone for a wonderful welcome. Many great events have happened in the first week. --We have 291 students. We now have three 1st grade classes. Any new first graders to town will come to Coleman because our first grade classes are the smallest (17 each). --PARCC scores will be mailed out on Friday. If you have questions regarding your childs score, contact Mr. Thompson or Mrs. Falkenstern. --Back to School night tonight for LLD and full school next week, Sept 21. --Oct 5th Homework Free night. That week is also the Week of Respect. --Picture Day on Sept 15th. --Looking forward to the GaGa pit in the 5th grade area. --Apparel sales, magnets and water bottles will be for sale at Back to School night. The forms will be available for the apparel and sample sizes. 3. Committee Reports: 1. --Movie night: Next Friday night, Sept 23rd. Original Willy Wonka will be shown. Will have a Golden Ticket Raffle. Movie is set up by outdoor classroom. Families bring blankets and chairs. Kids run around. Need volunteers to help sell concessions (arrive at 7pm). To Volunteer contact Melissa Antonelli. Bathrooms in 5th grade hallway can be used. --Farm Fest: In the works. Friday October 7th, after school until 5:30 or so. There will be pumpkins, donuts, cider, mums, and games. Need at least 2 volunteers per class (class parents or a substitute). Check if donuts are nut free. Can add Pizza to the menu. --Oktoberfest. October 14th. Parents only. At the GR Activities Club. Similar to last year will include German food, drink, and a stein with the Coleman logo. Tickets are available for $60 per person. --Learning center volunteers are set up through end of October. Class parents should solicit more volunteers and do the full list. Looking to see if we can use Signup Genius for signups. Class Parents will be notified this week. --To volunteer for committees, please go to the Volunteer tab in your account on the HSA website. --Drama Club: Last year we had a great experience with Porchlight. We have committed with them for next year. Annie will be the production. The HSA donated $4000. Participation has a fee as well. There will be more staff this year from Porchlight to run the show. There will be an information session in December and auditions and practices will start in January with the performance in March. Grades K-1 practice once a week. Grades 2-5 practice twice a week. There is a technical crew as well. More info will come later in the fall. --Publicity: In the past, there were 1 or 2 people who are able to go into any event to take pictures. The Principal used some of the pictures in the hallways, or could be sent to the Gazette or put on the website. Photos were saved on a Snapfish account for use in the 5th grade yearbook. Bari Engel is leading this year and will seek to get volunteers to help support the responsibility. Kristen will send the class parent list to Bari to get started. --Book fair is also coming in October (26-28). Melissa Merchant is leading. Sign up to volunteer on the HSA website. You can volunteer to go when your child goes and/or to help for other times.

4. Q&A: --Question about the air conditioning situation. The full air conditioning solution can only be addressed by the BOE. There is currently a survey asking for district prioritization which includes air conditioning in the elementary. Parents should look in their email for a survey link from the Superintendent.On very hot days, teachers have certain times they can take the kids into the learning center and/or the gym.The HSA is investigating if it can purchase fans for all the teachers. --Can the Principal accommodate more than one email per family? Mr. Thompson will use the Genesis system and send out notes to anyone in the system and see how that works. Will use today for the Picture Day reminder.
