Or. the ~2M :-'Iay ! 990 ~!icl:ae! "\lJher, Munster Council Chairman, officially opened Moyle Park. This was a mU10r undertaking for the Moyle Rovers Footbal! and Hurling Club, but they continued to develop dunng the 199C's and to date ",reyle Rovers O.AA Club has provided :ipons facl!ilies in the form of:

• Two G.A,A P.:tches • Two Tennis COUl"ls. ·",'hich are currently being used by Monroe Tennis Club. • Basket Ball Court • Dressing-rooms

:'vloyJe Rovers Football & Hurling Club, comprises of the parishes of Powerstown· Lisronagh, is a rural based club but it also takes in part of the urban area of CIon me!. The number of households In the parish is in excess of 800 with an estimated population of 3000 people.

With the growing demand for indoor recreational activities It was only natural that Moyle Rovers G.A.A Club would continue their developments. The Development Conunittee of the club met in 1997 to investigate the provision of a Sports & Leisure Centre. A feasibility study of new proposals at Moyle Park was conducted in 1999. This showed that provision of spons hall and a:1cillary accommodation was a necessary developmem.

A fund-raising committee was se.t up in 1999. This was known as MOrlfoe Development Committee and is a sub-committee of Moyle Rovers G.A.A. Club. The erection ofspons hall, changing rooms, showers etc. is now about to take place.

Moyle Rovers G.A.A. Club will endeavour that Monroe Sports & Leisure Complex will be a fitting tribute to the late Michael McCarthy for his life of unselfish work In the development of the club.

Moyle Rovers epitomizes thei r strength as a strong club in two ways:

I. Though primarily a Senior Football Club it also promotes hurling and it fields teams in hurling/or all age groups up to Intermediate level and was success/ul in winning a Tipperary iUnlor Hurling title in recent years.

2. The developments at Moyle Park continlle during a perIod when the clllb is also successful on the playingfields.

The success a/Moyle Rovers Senior Football Team in winning 5 Tipperary Senior Football titles during the 1990·s has had an enormous impact on the club and is one a/the motivoting/orces behind the new development at Moyle Park. This success can be me:ls:..:reci il". many ways'
