Global History & Geography I Course Syllabus 2016-2017

Course Description: Global History & Geography is a two-year course. This year, we will study world history, dating from pre-history to 1500s Europe. Students will examine various individuals, events, and concepts using a variety of instructional techniques throughout the school year. Students will be expected to take a final examination at the conclusion of the course in June. The exam will cover all the material presented this year. Students will continue the course the following school year. At the conclusion of the second year, students will take a New York State Regents Exam that covers all of the material from both years of study.

Textbook: World History Patterns of Interaction, McDougal Littell

Materials: Students should maintain a notebook that will be used daily in class. The notebook should consist a three-ring binder with loose-leaf paper. Students should obtain a highlighter that will be used throughout the year. In addition, students should bring a writing utensil to class daily.

Grading & Assignments: Students will be graded on a variety of assessments throughout the schools year. These include but are not limited to: exams, quizzes, essays, written assignments, presentations, and group assessments. There will be no penalty for late assignments (with specified exceptions), however, students are required to submit the missing work prior to the end of the Quarter or they will earn a zero. Each student will receive a participation grade based upon their contributions and preparedness for class.

Classroom Expectations: 1. Please arrive in class on time & be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. 2. Always come prepared to class with your textbook, notebook, writing utensil, readings, & homework (if assigned) each day. 3. Please remain seated at all times during class unless you have permission by the instructor to move around the room. 4. You may not enter class late without a pass. Should you not have a pass your lateness will be “unexcused”. (Three unexcused latenesses equal an absence.) 5. With the exception of water, please do not bring food or drink into class. If for medical reasons food is required accommodations will be made. 6. Upon entering class, please shut off your cell phones, iPods, & any other electronic devices. They are an academic distraction & if they are seen or heard will be taken and given to administration. 7. Please do not touch the windows, ask you instructor to open or close them if required.

8. Respect all other individuals in the classroom. This includes your teacher, classmates and any other person present in the classroom. 9. Academic dishonesty is not tolerated. Should the situation arise, parents will be notified and the student will earn a zero for the assignment. 10. If you have any questions academic or otherwise, please let your instructor know. I am here to help.

The Final Exam: June 2017
