Welcome Back to Term 3 to All Students!

Peas Class News

Welcome back to Term 3 to all students!

This term we are going to be continuing with the hard work that we all put in during semester 1.

The Peas will be continuing to extend their grammar, vocabulary, writing and general knowledge through our daily morning routine activities. Our focus this term is going to be around the places and suburbs nearby, their names and some of their history and features.

Students in Peas are being given the opportunity to practice their writing skills through ‘DEW Time’ (Drop Everything and Write) daily. During DEW time, children are encouraged to express themselves through independent writing, free from specific direction and success criteria. They may write about anything they like, from simple stories and poetry through to diary entries, letters and information reports or they may choose to follow a teacher provided idea. DEW time is for 15 minutes immediately following lunchtime.

The program of mathematics for the Peas this term will include addition and subtraction, whole number and patterns and chance. Two and three dimensional space, length and area will be the focus areas in measurement and geometry.

In geography, the Peas will be focussing on a unit of work ‘People and Places’. In this unit, we will be looking at places in Australia and answering key inquiry questions ‘how are people connected to places?’ and ‘what factors affect people’s connections to places?’

All students are encouraged to read on a nightly basis for at least 15 minutes and complete their assigned mathletics tasks which are linked to concepts introduced in class. The live mathletics challenges within program provide students with a fun and exciting way to improve their accuracy and speed. The activities have been appropriately set to their individual skill levels of mental addition and subtraction.
