10, 11 and 12 MIFA's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program volunteers advocate for the rights of nursing home residents. To become certified you must complete 15 hours of classroom and on-site training, either weekends or weekdays. Contact Rick Finkey [email protected] or 527-0208, ext. 230, for more information.

MIFA Meals - Brighten the day of a home-bound senior citizen by delivering hot meals Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Volunteers must have their own vehicles and proof of insurance. Your organization can adopt a route (deliver once a week, once a month). For more information, contact Helen Ryan at 529-4513 or [email protected].
Wanted: Individuals to sort, organize, price and display clothing and household items for the MIFA Thrift Shop Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays, from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. You can also donate items to the MIFA Thrift Shop. Contact Lena McBride, [email protected] at 529-4504.
MIFA Mentoring - If you've ever overcome an obstacle and want to others succeed, your potential for mentoring is limitless.
Help a homeless family with budgeting, debt reduction, parenting skills, problem solving and other issues. With your help, family members will be equipped to handle whatever life holds in store when they move to permanent housing. For more information, contact Tonya Crowder or Stephanie Ball at 525-7766.
Help inner-city teens learn vital job skills such as being punctual, following directions and meeting deadlines. With your help, teen can learn to balance school and work. To be a Teen Job Services Mentor, contact Derek Henson, [email protected] or 529-4556.
Volunteers are also needed to provide care for children of MIFA Housing on Monday- Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. while their parents attend life skill classes at the Les Passes Center for Children and Families, 715 St. Paul Avenue. Contact LaShonda Lewis, Childcare Coordinator, 525-7766, ext. 31.
Put a smile on the faces of the elderly by building ramps and cleaning yards. The MIFA Handyman program always needs individual and group volunteers. Contact Mary Claire Borys at [email protected] or 527-0208, ext. 425 to schedule a Handyman work day for your group.
Be a MIFA Rep for your congregation! MIFA Reps serve as MIFA ambassadors and keep their congregations informed of MIFA programs, events and volunteer opportunities. Orientation involves a brief tour scheduled at your convenience. Contact Linda Marks at 527-0208 or [email protected] for information.
Want to get dirty with Facilities Management? Clean and sort merchandise at the warehouse. Plow and remove tree stubs on vacant lots! Or plant flowers and shrubs up until April 15 at various locations. For more information contact Mary Wilder, [email protected] or 527-0208.
Provide assistance with MIFA Development mailings, special events and general office activities. Flexible hours, refreshments, and great incentives! Chat with a friend while helping MIFA. If interested, contact Charlie Nelson, [email protected] or 529-4514.
MIFA tours and volunteer orientation/training sessions are held every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. at the MIFA office, 910 Vance. Contact Charlie Nelson at [email protected] or 529-4514 to reserve a spot.
