Principal Terms and Conditions April 2014

PRINCIPAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS – APRIL 2014

PAY AND ALLOWANCES

The role of Head of School attracts a non-superannuable allowance of £7,000 per annum. Heads of Schools who are not at the top of their grade or zone will be awarded one spine point upon appointment and the amount of this award will be offset against the allowance. Where an individual’s salary lies between points, their salary will be moved to the next point within their grade or zone. Heads of School who are paid the top point of their zone or the contribution point of their grade will receive the allowance only.

The allowance will be paid monthly in addition to basic salary.

The allowance is not subject to any cost-of-living uplift.

SALARY REVIEW DURING TERM OF OFFICE

Salary reviews for Heads of Schools who are at Professorial grade will continue to be governed by the Policy and Procedure for Professorial and Managerial and Specialist Grade 10 Salaries.

Heads of Schools who are at Senior Lecturer grade or Reader will continue to receive annual incremental rises up to the top of the pay scale. Staff who reach the maximum of their substantive grade during the course of their term of office as Head of School will be eligible for consideration of ‘ex gratia’ bonus payments for exceptional performance. Exceptionally, applications for these payments will be considered by Senior Remuneration Committee.

RESEARCH LEAVE

A term of office as Head of School will not attract research leave. However an application may be made in the normal way for research leave after the period is over.

Research leave may not be taking during a term of office, nor may leave for any teaching- related purpose.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

Annual performance objectives for the role of Head of School will be set by the relevant Dean at the beginning of their term of office and will be reviewed through SPRE or PPRE as appropriate.

Page 1 of 2 EARLY TERMINATION ARRANGEMENTS

It is not anticipated that individuals who are appointed as Head of School will resign from this appointment before the end of the three year term of office. However, in extenuating circumstances, and with the approval of the Dean, the Head of School is required to give a minimum of three months' notice in writing to terminate term of office.

All reasonable support and development will be provided to the office-holder; however, not withstanding this support, three months notice of termination may be given based on documented performance concerns at the discretion of the Dean.

All other terms and conditions of employment remain the same, unless otherwise stated in the cover letter to this document.
