PETER H. 12 HUIZENGA OF OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS, ON THE 13 OCCASION OF HIS SEVENTYTHIRD BIRTHDAY, TO 14 THANK HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE 15 STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM MANY 16 YEARS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS TO COME. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 19 Representatives are pleased to learn that an honored friend of this 20 great State, Mr. Peter H. Huizenga, celebrated his seventythird 21 birthday on March 14, 2012; and 22 23 Whereas, throughout his seventythree years, Peter H. Huizenga, 24 founder and chairman of Huizenga Capital Management, has 25 achieved great success in business; and 26 27 Whereas, as one of the original founders of Waste Management, 28 Inc., he helped guide that company from a fledgling 29 garbagehauling concern to the largest environmentalservices 30 company in the world; and 31 32 Whereas, in 1983, Peter began a long and meaningful relationship 33 with the State of South Carolina through Waste Management, 34 Inc.’s acquisition of ChemNuclear Systems, Inc. in Barnwell 35 County; and 36 37 Whereas, his contributions to Barnwell County through various 38 charitable organizations are still positively impacting her citizens, 39 and his support for the Salkahatchie Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is 40 still remembered in Barnwell County by fellow avid outdoorsmen; 41 and 42
[5124] 1 1 Whereas, he was instrumental in developing a relationship with the 2 late John C. West, former Governor of South Carolina and 3 Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, as well as with former Governor and 4 United States Secretary of Energy James B. Edwards, both 5 relationships being of mutual benefit to the Palmetto State and his 6 company; and 7 8 Whereas, since leaving Waste Management, Peter Huizenga has 9 maintained his ties with South Carolina through friendships forged 10 during the decades of the 1980s and 1990s. With close friends Jim 11 Riley and Terry Gabinski, he continues to host an Allan Stalveyled 12 group of South Carolinians during their annual “Cubs trip” to 13 Peter’s home city of Chicago; and 14 15 Whereas, Peter considers it one of the greatest triumphs of his life 16 that he was able to persuade his beloved Heidi to become his wife. 17 They are the proud parents of four children, who have given their 18 parents the joy of delightful grandchildren; and 19 20 Whereas, grateful for his longtime service to the Palmetto State, 21 the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in honoring 22 Peter Huizenga at the celebration of his seventythird birthday and 23 joins with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching 24 this important life milestone. Now, therefore, 25 26 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 27 28 That the members of the House of Representatives extend warmest 29 greetings to Mr. Peter H. Huizenga of Oak Brook, Illinois, on the 30 occasion of his seventythird birthday, thank him for his many 31 years of service to the State of South Carolina, and wish him many 32 years of health and happiness to come. 33 34 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 35 Mr. Peter H.
