International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2009: preparation in progress

According to the Russian Federation Government decree № 8 from 14.01.08 the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2009 is to be held in August 18 - 23, 2009 on the territory of Gromov Flight Research Institute (Zhukovsky, Moscow region).

1 Today MAKS takes one of leading places among world aviation salons and reaches a new qualitative level aiming to expansion of the international cooperation. Works on attraction of exhibitors that have begun right after MAKS 2007, included negotiations both with Russian and foreign companies in order to preliminary define the format and the size of their participation and to plan the participation budget. As a result of this work 60% of applications from potential exhibitors of MAKS 2009 have been received (by 01.01.2009). Among the main participants are: - United Aircraft Corporation JSC (UAC); - Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos); - Almaz-Antey Concern; - Tactical Missiles Corporation JSC. The list of exhibitors includes by now 184 companies. Among them: CSTS Dinamika, SPARK, FSUE Institute of Aircraft Equipment, Vsmpo-Avisma Corporation, Nita Company, S.P. Gorbunov KAPO, Aviazapchast, Radar MMS, V.Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Design, Sukhoi Company, Il, Tupolev, RAC MIG, Irkut, Helicopters of Russia, FSUE SPE Polet, Ilyushin Finance Co, VNIIRA, Radio Engineering Corporation VEGA and others. By now 15 978 m^2 have been reserved. This is about 70% of all exhibition space. The tendency of participation of different corporations and holdings as co-exhibitors sharing one united stand, which have been outlined during the previous salons will be continued on MAKS 2009. So, according to the received applications, we can expect united exposition of UAC gathered in one pavilion. Oboronprom, Roscosmos, Avionika and United Corporation of Motor Engineers that participates for the first time in MAKS 2009 – all these companies have decided to participate in the form of united exposition. All stationary chalets have been reserved by the leading Russian and foreign aviation companies, financial and insurance structures, banks. The organisation of foreign participation in MAKS 2009 has two basic moments. Along with traditional independent participation of separate companies, great attention is given to the organization of national pavilions. Organizers of national expositions of Germany (BDLI), France (GIFAS), Belgium (FLAG, FIT Belgium), the Czech Republic (the Ministry of Industry and Trade) have already decided to participate as usual within the national pavilions. For the first time Swiss companies will be presented at MAKS within a united exposition (organizer SwissMEM). It is still being discussed about national pavilions of Ukraine (the Ministry of Industrial Policy, Vector State Corp.), Byelorussia (Beltechexport), USA (US DoD, US DoC, NASA, Kallman Worldwide).

2 Organization of Chinese and Indian national pavilions is also under discussion now, as the format of participation of these countries should be co-ordinated and approved on the national level: the Ministry of Industry and Computer Science of China and the Ministry of Defence of India. By now a preliminary consent of the Chinese party has been received. In case of the positive decision national expositions of these countries will be presented together with national expositions of Czech Republic and Byelorussia in one hall. National pavilions of West Europe and America, and also independent participants from these regions will be placed in the international hall. By now a lot of world leading manufactures of aviation technics have applied to participate in MAKS-2009. Among these companies are: EADS, AIRBUS, FINMECCANICA, SAFRAN, ROLLS-ROYCE, ISRAEL AEROSPACE INDUSTRIES. Negotiations with BOEING, UNITED TECHNOLOGIES, HONEYWELL are still being conducted. Within the limits of the business program, the second European Congress for transport aviation will be carried out for the first time together with the German-Russian Economic Alliance (August 19-20, 20009). The present world economic situation demands wide and professional discussion of current problems of development and functioning of the transport aviation market in the conditions of financial crisis and economic recession, that is why these questions will be included in the Congress agenda. According to the Concept of holding of MAKS 2009 Aviasalon JSC undertakes efforts to create comfortable conditions for exhibitors and visitors, to create favourable conditions for business audience and to increase of mass-media loyalty. For the purpose of that the following renovations have been made: - renovation of the exhibition site plan of MAKS 2009 with continuous numbering of exhibition objects and territory zoning for different kinds of exhibition activity; - new modern temporary pavilions with good conditioning systems that are to provide comfortable conditions for participants and visitors of the air show; - building of two new chalet blocks (2000 m^2) that will reduce deficit of required area; - downsizing of the length of the static display due to the addition of areas to efficiently accommodate the samples of aircrafts and to create comfortable conditions for aircraft observation; - increasing the number of equipped security desks and categorization of visitors for the access to the exhibition territory to become more comfortable and fast;

3 - the entrance of exhibitors and visitors to the territory of the Gromov Flight Research Institute only via official MAKS transport or via transport with preliminary ordered vehicle passes; - new WC blocks; - arranging of food courts and souvenir fair; - standardization of external design of exhibition pavilions; - building of children’s hall with playgrounds of different format and rest zones; - introducing a single entrance badge with bar-code for all categories of participants and business visitors; - creation of a special business center with well-furnished press center, conference hall, the on-site exhibition office and service center. All mentioned-above will ensure effective business communication both of media representatives and business audience; - on August 18, 2009 (MAKS 2009 opening day) only exhibitors, mass-media and VIP- guests from the list approved by the Organization Committee are allowed to enter the Salon (children are not allowed on this day and on business days); - during business days (19-20.08.09) flying displays are to be held from 14.00 till 18.00 to create more comfortable working atmosphere; - free entrance for children under 14 y.o. to the exhibition territory on public days (August 21 - 23, 2009); - holding of flying displays during Grand Air Show on public days (21-23.08.09) from 11.00 till 18.00. The program of demonstrational flights and displays on MAKS 2009 will be as colourful and dynamic as always!
