The Training Programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sumayaa Dawood, Principal, TBAK College for Women, Kilakarai. The clinical practice sessions took place at the General Hospital, in Ramanathapuram.
For all participants of the ToT and of the IYCF course this was a new awakening to infant feeding especially to handling delicate issues regarding breastfeeding. All participants were enthusiastically involved in all the sessions and on the last day came up with very beautifully prepared folk songs, skit and pop songs on infant feeding right from pregnancy to childhood. The entire portion is captured on video and is couriered separately. The photographs taken during the course have also been included. I will send you the details of the courier also so you can track that.
All were very grateful to have Dr. K. P. Kushwaha train them and are eager to take this further in their future community outreach programs.
The college has announced the introduction of a three month intensive course on IYCF (inclusive of the clinical training) to begin later at the end of this academic session or in 2009. This was announced at the College Day celebrations that was also in the second week of March 2008.
The TBAK College and the Crescent Yousuf Zulaiha School of Nursing will be conducting not only the WBW but will also be carrying out work on IYCF in their outreach programs using the trained IYCF specialists for a period of two years. The details of the program are yet to be worked out.
