Darien Lake Theme Park’s Read to Ride Program am

Dear Hamilton Families,

Darien Lake is once again offering the school reading program, “Read to Ride” in 2016. When students in grades 1-5 read for 7 hours, outside the classroom, Darien Lake will treat them to a fun day at the park. Using the attached “Student Tracking Chart,” families may begin recording time spent on leisure reading between January 28th and February 29th, 2016. This will give the students enough time to complete their reading challenge. I will send the required forms back to Darien Lake and they’ll send a free park ticket to each student who has met the 7-hour goal.

The rules and procedures are very simple.

 To become a member of the Read to Ride program, students must meet their 7 hours “Share-A-Book” goal.

 The 7 hours of reading can be in the form of reading to oneself, reading to another person, or being read to by others.

 Students may read books, magazines, or newspapers.

 All student tracking charts must be signed and returned to their classroom teacher by Friday, March 4th. We cannot accept any charts after this date.

 Extra forms will be available on our website under the” Read to Ride” heading.

I will review the student’s reading logs, which must be signed by a parent or guardian to verify each student’s accomplishments. Once a student has reached his/her goal, he/she will receive one free admission ticket, for one admission only, to Darien Lake Theme Park. This ticket may be used during the months of July and August 2016 only. Tickets are valid for both the Theme Park and Water Park admission. Tickets will be sent to the school in April and then distributed to students.

I look forward to seeing every student in grades 1-5 participating in this program not solely for the ticket but for the enjoyment of reading!

Happy Reading,
