Sheheen; and 26 27 Whereas, Sue came to the General Assembly with distinguished 28 records of academic achievement and outstanding service to both 29 the federal and state judiciaries; and 30 31 Whereas, Sue was a senior research fellow and a Phi Beta Kappa 32 undergraduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She was 33 awarded a Master’s degree in political science from Rutgers 34 University and a juris doctorate from the University of South 35 Carolina, where she was an articles editor on the University of 36 South Carolina Law Review; and 37 38 Whereas, after having served as a law clerk for the Honorable 39 Matthew J. Perry, Jr., United States District Judge for the District 40 of South Carolina, Sue clerked for the Honorable Tolbert Goolsby, 41 Jr., Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals; and 42

1 [4282] 1 1 Whereas, Sue served as assistant staff attorney for the Judiciary 2 Committee from 1986 to 1988 under Robert Sheheen and David 3 Wilkins, becoming chief staff attorney in 1988 and serving under 4 chairmen James Hodges and James Harrison; and 5 6 Whereas, during her service to the committee, always efficient and 7 effective in her staff responsibilities, Sue briefed and advised the 8 chairman and members on numerous complex issues, including 9 judicial selection reform, House reapportionment, government 10 restructuring, and welfare reform; and 11 12 Whereas, in October of 1998, Sue joined the South Carolina 13 Legislative Council as a staff attorney and with her extensive 14 legislative experience, dedication, and strong work ethic, quickly 15 became a highly valued member of the council staff; and 16 17 Whereas, Sue will be leaving South Carolina to join her husband, 18 Jim, in his new position as an Associate Dean at the University of 19 Maryland School of Medicine; and 20 21 Whereas, this highly respected staff attorney and colleague will be 22 greatly missed not only for her professionalism, integrity, and legal 23 skills, but also for her loyalty, compassion, and thoughtfulness, not 24 to mention her warm smile and keen sense of humor; and 25 26 Whereas, the members of the General Assembly wish to take this 27 opportunity to pause in their deliberations to express their high 28 regard and deep respect for this outstanding public servant and 29 dear friend. Now, therefore, 30 31 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 32 concurring: 33 34 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this 35 resolution, express their sincere gratitude to Susan “Sue” Olson 36 McNamee for her years of dedicated service to the South Carolina 37 General Assembly, as counsel to the House Judiciary Committee 38 and as staff attorney with the Legislative Council, and wish her 39 Godspeed and best wishes in all her future endeavors as she joins 40 her husband, Jim, in Maryland. 41 42 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 43 Susan Olson McNamee.
