Long 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\gm\24578sd10.docx 11 12 Introduced in the House on June 2, 2010 13 Adopted by the House on June 2, 2010 14 15 Summary: Sergeant First Class Ralph Castle; Jane Anne Maxwell 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 6/2/2010 House Introduced and adopted HJ107 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 6/2/2010 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SERGEANT FIRST CLASS 12 RALPH CASTLE AND JANE ANN MAXWELL FOR THEIR 13 SUPPORT OF THE 122ND SAPPER COMPANY IN FORT MILL, 14 AND TO COMMEND THEIR EFFORTS AND THE EFFORTS 15 OF MANY OTHERS IN “OPERATION HUSH,” THE PROJECT 16 TO REFURBISH THE FORT MILL ARMORY RECREATION 17 ROOM. 18 19 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 20 Representatives are grateful for the work of Sergeant First Class 21 Ralph Castle and Jane Ann Maxwell to honor the deployed 22 soldiers of the 122nd Sapper Company by renovating the Fort Mill 23 Armory recreation room; and 24 25 Whereas, when the company deployed for their third tour of a war 26 zone, they said farewell to their families from the rundown 27 recreation room in the Fort Mill Armory; and 28 29 Whereas, while the soldiers have been gone, Sergeant Ralph Castle 30 and Jane Ann Maxwell began a plan to clean up the recreation 31 room, and that plan has transformed into a project now called 32 “Operation Hush,” a project they hope will surprise the company 33 when the soldiers return home in October; and 34 35 Whereas, battered furniture has been discarded, sheet rock has 36 been cut, and updated wiring and lighting have been added to 37 create the feel of a sports bar; and 38 39 Whereas, now a corps of volunteers is on a mission of its own with 40 a dream of cleaning up a once dilapidated room, and local 41 businesses have helped to make the dream a reality by providing 42 some of the new furnishings for the room; and

[5070] 2 1 2 Whereas, when the company returns home in October, Sergeant 3 Castle and Jane Ann Maxwell hope to have several seating 4 arrangements with a media center for children and adults, complete 5 with pictures and games, a pool table, some plants, fresh paint and 6 flooring in the recreation room of the armory; and 7 8 Whereas, the volunteers and contributors want to express their 9 appreciation for the dedication of these soldiers who have left their 10 homes and families to answer the call of their country and for the 11 sacrifice that the families have made; and 12 13 Whereas, the finished recreation room will serve as a warm 14 environment that feels like home, a place for birthday parties for 15 the children or for baby showers for the spouses, and a place for 16 the soldiers’ family members to gather; and 17 18 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 19 Representatives are grateful for the efforts of Sergeant First Class 20 Ralph Castle and Jane Ann Maxwell and the countless volunteers 21 in “Operation Hush” to boost the military and family morale of 22 their neighbors deployed with the 122nd Sapper Company. Now, 23 therefore, 24 25 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 26 27 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 28 by this resolution, recognize and honor Sergeant First Class Ralph 29 Castle and Jane Ann Maxwell for their support of the 122nd Sapper 30 Company in Fort Mill, and commend their efforts and the efforts 31 of many others in “Operation Hush,” the project to refurbish the 32 Fort Mill Armory recreation room. 33 34 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 35 Sergeant First Class Ralph Castle and to Jane Ann Maxwell. 36 XX 37
