1.4 DESIGN / PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
4.A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide factory fabricated piping hangers and supports of the type specified and indicated on the Drawings. Use only one type by one manufacturer for each piping service. Select size of hangers and supports to exactly fit pipe size for bare piping, and to exactly fit around piping insulation with saddle or shield for insulated piping. 22 05 29-3 4.B. Design: Design trapeze pipe hangers and equipment supports, including comprehensive engineering analysis by a qualified professional engineer, using performance requirements and design criteria indicated.
4.C. Structural Performance: Hangers and supports for plumbing piping and equipment shall withstand the effects of gravity loads and stresses within limits and under conditions indicated in accordance with ASCE/SEI 7. 4.C.1. Design supports for multiple pipes, including pipe stands, capable of supporting combined weight and thrust loads of supported systems, system contents, and test water. 4.C.2. Design equipment supports capable of supporting combined operating weight of supported equipment and connected systems and components. 4.C.3. Design seismic-restraint hangers and supports for piping and equipment and obtain approval from authorities having jurisdiction.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
5.A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.
5.B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product including components to be used, including: 5.B.1. Preparation instructions and recommendations. 5.B.2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations. 5.B.3. Installation methods.
5.C. Shop Drawings: Signed and sealed by a qualified professional engineer. Show fabrication and installation details and include calculations for the following: 5.C.1. Trapeze pipe hangers. 5.C.2. Metal framing systems. 5.C.3. Fiberglass strut systems. 5.C.4. Pipe stands. 5.C.5. Equipment supports. 5.C.6. Pipe positioning systems. 5.C.7. Acoustical pipe isolation supports.
5.D. Design Submittal: For trapeze hangers, comply with performance requirements and design criteria, including analysis data that is signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer licensed at the Project location and responsible for their preparation. 5.D.1. Detail fabrication and assembly of trapeze hangers. 5.D.2. Design Calculations: Calculate requirements for designing trapeze hangers.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
6.A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing Products specified in this section with minimum 3 years documented experience.
6.B. Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum 3 years documented experience.
6.C. Structural Steel Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and personnel according to AWS D1.1/D1.1M, "Structural Welding Code - Steel."
6.D. Pipe Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and operators according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
7.A. Accept materials on site in original factory packaging, labeled with manufacturer's identification.
7.B. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
7.C. Protect from weather and construction traffic, dirt, water, chemical, and mechanical damage.
1.8 SEQUENCING
8.A. Ensure that locating templates and other information required for installation of products of this section are furnished to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
8.B. Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.
1.9 PROJECT CONDITIONS
9.A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.

2.D. No-hub Cast Iron Soil Pipe Fitting Restraints: 2.D.1. Description: CISPI Designation 301-12 large diameter no-hub cast iron fittings, over 4 inch (102 mm) in size, with supplemental support to minimize the risk of joints separation under high thrust conditions. 2.3 TRAPEZE PIPE HANGERS
3.A. Trapeze Type: MSS SP-69, Type 59, shop or field-fabricated pipe-support assembly made from structural carbon-steel shapes with MSS SP-58 carbon-steel hanger rods, nuts, saddles, and washers. Total load of piping components imposed on trapeze spans shall not exceed manufacturer's design load rating. 2.14 MISCELLANEOUS MATERlALS
14.A. Structural Steel: ASTM A 36/A 36M, carbon-steel plates, shapes, and bars; black and galvanized.
14.B. Grout: ASTM C 1107, factory-mixed and packaged, dry, hydraulic-cement, non-shrink and non- metallic grout; suitable for interior and exterior applications. 14.B.1. Properties: Nonstaining, noncorrosive, and nongaseous. 14.B.2. Design Mix: 5000 psi (34.5-MPa), 28 day compressive strength.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
1.A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.
1.B. If substrate is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory conditions before proceeding.
3.2 PREPARATION
2.A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.
2.B. Obtain permission from Architect before using powder-actuated anchors.
22 05 29-13 2.C. Do not drill or cut structural members.
2.D. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
3.3 HANGER AND SUPPORT INSTALLATION
3.A. Support of piping and equipment by means of engineered products designed for each application. Comply with manufacturer's design load capacities. Makeshift, field-devised methods such as use of scrap materials, plumber's tape, tie wires and similar methods are not permitted.
3.B. Metal Pipe-Hanger Installation: Comply with MSS SP-69 and MSS SP-89. Install hangers, supports, clamps, and attachments as required to properly support piping from the building structure.
3.C. Metal Trapeze Pipe-Hanger Installation: Comply with MSS SP-69 and MSS SP-89. Arrange for grouping of parallel runs of horizontal piping, and support together on field-fabricated trapeze pipe hangers. 3.C.1. Pipes of Various Sizes: Support together and space trapezes for smallest pipe size or install intermediate supports for smaller diameter pipes as specified for individual pipe hangers. 3.C.2. For applications not suited to, or exceeding the capacity of manufactured supports, field fabricate from ASTM A 36/A 36M, carbon-steel shapes selected and designed for loads being supported. Weld steel according to AWS D1.1/D1.1M.
3.D. Fiberglass Pipe-Hanger Installation: Comply with applicable portions of MSS SP-69 and MSS SP-89. Install hangers and attachments as required to properly support piping from building structure.
3.E. Metal Framing System Installation: Arrange for grouping of parallel runs of piping, and support together on field-assembled metal framing systems.
3.F. Fiberglass Strut System Installation: Arrange for grouping of parallel runs of piping, and support together on field-assembled fiberglass struts.
3.G. Thermal-Hanger Shield Installation: Install in pipe hanger or shield for insulated piping.
3.H. Fastener System Installation: 3.H.1. Install powder-actuated fasteners for use in lightweight concrete or concrete slabs less than 4 inches (100 mm) thick in concrete after concrete is placed and completely cured. Use operators that are licensed by powder-actuated tool manufacturer. Install fasteners according to powder-actuated tool manufacturer's operating manual. 3.H.2. Install mechanical-expansion anchors in concrete after concrete is placed and completely cured. Install fasteners according to manufacturer's written instructions.
3.I. Pipe Stand Installation: 22 05 29-14 3.I.1. Pipe Stand Types except Curb-Mounted Type: Assemble components and mount on smooth roof surface. Do not penetrate roof membrane. 3.I.2. Curb-Mounted-Type Pipe Stands: Assemble components or fabricate pipe stand and mount on permanent, stationary roof curb. Roof curbs are specified in Section 07 25 00 - WeatherBarriers Roof Accessories.
3.J. Pipe Positioning-System Installation: Install support devices to make rigid supply and waste piping connections to each plumbing fixture with the use of manufactured products, designed for each specific application. Makeshift, field-devised, methods shall not be employed.
3.K. Install hangers and supports complete with necessary attachments, inserts, bolts, rods, nuts, washers, and other accessories with the use of manufactured products, designed for each specific application. Makeshift, field-devised, methods shall not be employed.
3.L. Equipment Support Installation: Use manufactured equipment supports designed for and recommended by manufacturer for specific applications. Comply with manufacturers rated load capacities. For applications not suited to, or exceeding the capacity of manufactured supports, fabricate supports from welded-structural-steel shapes designed for the equipment to be supported.
3.M. Install hangers and supports to allow controlled thermal and seismic movement of piping systems, to permit freedom of movement between pipe anchors, and to facilitate action of expansion joints, expansion loops, expansion bends, and similar units.
3.N. Install lateral bracing with pipe hangers and supports to prevent swaying.
3.O. Install Cast Iron pipe in compliance with all U S soil pipe and fitting manufacturers' installation instructions and per CISPI Designation 310-11, CISPI Designation 301-09 and the CISPI Cast Iron Soil Pipe Handbook, regarding auxiliary support for ho-hub cast iron pipe and fitting joints over 4 inches (102 mm) in size and for joints subjected to excessive thrust forces, use manufactured assemblies with appropriate thrust pressure ratings, rather than field assembled miscellaneous materials.
3.P. Building Attachments: 3.P.1. Within concrete slabs or attached to structural steel. Install additional attachments at concentrated loads, including valves, flanges, and strainers in accordance with NPS 2- 1/2 (DN 65) and larger and at changes in direction of piping. Install concrete inserts before concrete is placed; fasten inserts to forms and install reinforcing bars through openings at top of inserts. 3.P.2. For overhead pipe NPS 1 (DN 25) and smaller, use cast-in-place anchors specified.
3.Q. Load Distribution: Install hangers and supports so that piping live and dead loads and stresses from movement will not be transmitted to connected equipment.
3.R. Pipe Slopes: Install hangers and supports to provide indicated pipe slopes and to not exceed maximum pipe deflections allowed by ASME B31.9 for building services piping.
3.S. Insulated Piping: 3.S.1. 22 05 29-15 Attach clamps and spacers to piping. 3.S.1.a. Piping Operating above Ambient Air Temperature: Clamp may project through insulation. 3.S.1.b. Piping Operating below Ambient Air Temperature: Use thermal-hanger shield insert with clamp sized to match OD of insert. 3.S.1.c. Do not exceed pipe stress limits allowed by ASME B31.9 for building services piping. 3.S.2. Install MSS SP-58, Type 39, protection saddles if insulation without vapor barrier is indicated. Fill interior voids with insulation that matches adjoining insulation. 3.S.2.a. Option: Thermal-hanger shield inserts may be used. Include steel weight- distribution plate for pipe NPS 4 (DN 100) and larger if pipe is installed on rollers. 3.S.3. Install MSS SP-58, Type 40, protective shields on cold piping with vapor barrier. Shields shall span an arc of 180 degrees. 3.S.3.a. Option: Thermal-hanger shield inserts may be used. Include steel weight- distribution plate for pipe NPS 4 (DN 100) and larger if pipe is installed on rollers. 3.S.4. Shield Dimensions for Pipe: Not less than the following: 3.S.4.a. NPS 1/4 to NPS 3-1/2 (DN 8 to DN 90): 12 inches (305 mm) long and 0.048 inch (1.22 mm) thick. 3.S.4.b. NPS 4 (DN 100): 12 inches (305 mm) long and 0.06 inch (1.52 mm) thick. 3.S.4.c. NPS 5 and NPS 6 (DN 125 and DN 150): 18 inches (457 mm) long and 0.06 inch (1.52 mm) thick. 3.S.4.d. NPS 8 to NPS 14 (DN 200 to DN 350): 24 inches (610 mm) long and 0.075 inch (1.91 mm) thick. 3.S.4.e. NPS 16 to NPS 24 (DN 400 to DN 600): 24 inches (610 mm) long and 0.105 inch (2.67 mm) thick. 3.S.5. Pipes NPS 8 (DN 200) and Larger: Include wood or reinforced calcium-silicate-insulation inserts of length at least as long as protective shield. 3.S.6. Thermal-Hanger Shields: Install with insulation of same thickness as piping insulation.
3.T. Isolate piping systems from building structure to minimize noise transfer by using acoustical suspension isolator silencer and bracket system.
3.U. Protect tubing and piping from damage caused by abrasion when passing through studs, joists, and similar framing using abrasion protection isolators.
3.V. In plenum-rated applications, use tested clamp and isolator support systems designed specifically for this application.
3.W. Prevent damage to piping and tubing caused by contact between dissimilar metals using insert system designed specifically for this application.
3.4 EQUIPMENT SUPPORTS
22 05 29-16 4.A. Use manufactured equipment supports designed for and recommended by manufacturer for specific applications. Comply with manufacturer's rated load capacities. For applications not suited to, or exceeding, the capacity of manufactured supports, fabricate structural-steel stands to suspend equipment from structure overhead or to support equipment above floor.
4.B. Grouting: Place grout under supports for equipment and make bearing surface smooth.
4.C. Provide lateral bracing, to prevent swaying, for equipment supports.
4.D. No-hub pipe and fitting coupling joints over 4 inches (102 mm) in size shall receive auxiliary support by means of appropriate bracing materials, per all US soil pipe and fitting manufacturers' installation instructions and per CISPI Designation 310-11, CISPI Designation 301-09 and the CISPI Cast Iron Soil Pipe and Fittings Handbook. Auxiliary restraint products used shall be manufactured assemblies with thrust pressure rating adequate for the specific installation and shall be installed onto horizontal joints over 4 inches (102 mm) diameter in size. Field devised methods and materials shall not be used to accomplish this application solution.
3.5 METAL FABRICATIONS
5.A. Cut, drill, and fit miscellaneous metal fabrications for trapeze pipe hangers and equipment supports.
5.B. Fit exposed connections together to form hairline joints. Field weld connections that cannot be shop welded because of shipping size limitations.
5.C. Field Welding: Comply with AWS D1.1/D1.1M procedures for shielded, metal arc welding; appearance and quality of welds; and methods used in correcting welding work; and with the following: 5.C.1. Use materials and methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance of base metals. 5.C.2. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. 5.C.3. Remove welding flux immediately. 5.C.4. Finish welds at exposed connections so no roughness shows after finishing and so contours of welded surfaces match adjacent contours.
3.6 ADJUSTING
6.A. Hanger Adjustments: Adjust hangers to distribute loads equally on attachments and to achieve indicated slope of pipe.
6.B. Trim excess length of continuous-thread hanger and support rods to minimum of 1-1/2 inches (40 mm).
3.7 PAINTING
7.A. Touchup: Clean field welds and abraded areas of shop paint. Paint exposed areas immediately 22 05 29-17 after erecting hangers and supports. Use same materials as used for shop painting. Comply with SSPC-PA 1 requirements for touching up field-painted surfaces. 7.A.1. Apply paint by brush or spray to provide a minimum dry film thickness of 2.0 mils (0.05 mm).
7.B. Touchup: Cleaning and touchup painting of field welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas of shop paint on miscellaneous metal are specified in Section 09 90 00 - Painting and Coating Painting.
7.C. Galvanized Surfaces: Clean welds, bolted connections, and abraded areas and apply galvanizing-repair paint to comply with ASTM A 780.
3.8 PROTECTION
8.A. Protect installed products until completion of project.
8.B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
3.9 HANGER AND SUPPORT SCHEDULE
9.A. Specific hanger and support requirements are in Sections specifying piping systems and equipment.
9.B. Comply with MSS SP-69 for pipe-hanger selections and applications that are not specified in piping system Sections.
9.C. Use hangers and supports with galvanized metallic coatings for piping and equipment that will not have field-applied finish.
9.D. Use nonmetallic coatings on attachments for electrolytic protection where attachments are in direct contact with copper tubing.
9.E. Use carbon-steel for general service applications.
9.F. Use stainless steel or fiberglass corrosion-resistant attachments for hostile environment applications.
9.G. Use copper-plated hangers and copper or stainless steel attachments for copper piping and tubing.
9.H. Use padded hangers for piping that is subject to scratching.
9.I. Use thermal-hanger shield inserts for insulated piping and tubing.
9.J. Horizontal-Piping Hangers and Supports: Unless otherwise indicated and except as specified in piping system Sections, install the following types: 9.J.1. 22 05 29-18 Adjustable, Steel Clevis Hangers (MSS Type 1): For suspension of noninsulated or insulated, stationary pipes NPS 1/2 to NPS 30 (DN 15 to DN 750). 9.J.2. Yoke-Type Pipe Clamps (MSS Type 2): For suspension of up to 1050 degrees F (566 degrees C), pipes NPS 4 to NPS 24 (DN 100 to DN 600), requiring up to 4 inches (100 mm) of insulation. 9.J.3. Carbon- or Alloy-Steel, Double-Bolt Pipe Clamps (MSS Type 3): For suspension of pipes NPS 3/4 to NPS 36 (DN 20 to DN 900), requiring clamp flexibility and up to 4 inches (100 mm) of insulation. 9.J.4. Restraint-Control Devices (MSS Type 47): Where indicated to control piping movement. 9.O.2. Spring Cushions (MSS Type 48): For light loads if vertical movement does not exceed 1- 1/4 inches (32 mm). 9.O.3. Spring-Cushion Roll Hangers (MSS Type 49): For equipping Type 41, roll hanger with springs. 9.O.4. Spring Sway Braces (MSS Type 50): To retard sway, shock, vibration, or thermal expansion in piping systems. 9.O.5. Variable-Spring Hangers (MSS Type 51): Preset to indicated load and limit variability factor to 25 percent to allow expansion and contraction of piping system from hanger. 9.O.6. Variable-Spring Base Supports (MSS Type 52): Preset to indicated load and limit variability factor to 25 percent to allow expansion and contraction of piping system from base support. 9.O.7.
