Welcome to United States History! In this class you will be discovering the history of the United States from Colonization to Reconstruction. We will be discussing concepts such as American beginnings, colonies in the Americas, the colonies break free, a new American nation, building a stronger nation, a changing nation, the nation expands west, the nation breaks apart, and a growing America. You will be required to know people, places, and events that occurred throughout American History. Also, we will be discussing the concept of power and how it manifests itself through events.

Scope and Sequence

1st Nine Weeks: 2nd Nine Weeks: Introduction Week (1 week) Unit 3 Continued: Road to Revolution (2.5 weeks) Unit 1: Civil War (3 weeks) Unit 4: Revolutionary War/Articles Unit 2: Colonial Settlement and Culture (3.5 of Confederation (2 weeks) weeks) Unit 5: Constitution and New Republic (2.5 Unit 3: Road to Revolution (1.5 weeks) weeks) Semester Exam/ CBA#1 3rd Nine Weeks: 4th Nine Weeks: Unit 5: Constitution and New Republic (1.5 Unit 10: Challenges to Slavery (2 weeks) weeks) Unit 11: Unit 11: Reconstruction (1 week) Unit 6: Jefferson’s Republic (2.5 weeks) STAAR Testing Unit 7: Industrial Revolution (1 week) Unit 12-Foundations of World Geography Unit 8: Age of Jackson and Reform (3 weeks) *This unit has been added as a foundation for Unit 9: Territorial Growth and Sectionalism (2 students entering 9th grade World Geography. weeks) Final Exam

(Scope and Sequence may change depending on the needs of the students and changes may be seen on my website on the calendar) GRADING:  Major Grades (50%): o Test/ Examinations . Tests and examinations are used to determine and evaluate a student’s mastery of the TEKS and district objectives. Major tests or examinations and curriculum based assessments (CBA) are chapter, unit, concept or cumulative assessments given at various times such as weekly, three, six, or nine weeks, or semester.

o Special projects/ Research papers/ Long term projects . Research papers or projects are lengthy class and/or homework assignments that may take several weeks to complete. Projects may be assigned individually or to a group of students. I will provide a rubric to the student that explains how the project or paper will be assessed.

 Quizzes (30%): o Quizzes or short assessments to evaluate a student’s level of understanding and progress toward instructional objectives may also be considered daily grades. Quizzes do not have to be scheduled in advance.

 Daily Grades (20%): o Daily grades consist of any instructional activity defined or planned by the teacher to be completed during the class period or continued as homework to facilitate the learning process. Homework can be a necessary part of the instructional process that may or may not begin in the classroom and extend into time outside of the regular class time.

HOMEWORK:  Students will be expected to do homework on regular bases. This will either be through Edmodo, my website, or an assignment given to them in class. This is to help the student enhance their learning by reinforcing what they have or will be learning.

 As you may know A.I.S.D. has established a bring your own TECHNOLOGY USE: device policy and is trying to enhance learning through technology. In my class the students will create an Edmodo account and parents will has access to their child’s account. LATE WORK:  The table below reflects the maximum percentage of the possible grade the student is to receive in class for late assignments.

One day late 90%

Two days late 80%

Three days late 70%

Four or more days late No Credit

CLASSROOM RULES: 1. Be in your assigned seat or area, ready to work when class begins. 2. Have paper, pencils, books, and all needed supplies every day. 3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 4. No profanity, rude gestures, bullying, teasing, or put downs. 5. Follow directions of all school personnel.
