ESSENTIAL UNIT 2 (E02)

(Introducing Myself) (September 2013)

Unit Statement: In this unit the students will know how to introduce themselves to others regarding his/her name, country and birthday.

Essential Outcomes: (must be assessed for mastery)

1. The Student Will memorize and speak greeting words in Chinese. (Interpersonal Communication)

2. TSW read and recite 5 names of selected countries and languages. (Interpretive reading and Presentational speaking)

3. TSW properly introduces himself/herself to other people. (Interpersonal Communication)

4. TSW identify and understand all unit vocabulary words (Interpretive Listening and Reading)

5. TSW recognize from memory the following characters: 哪儿/where, 可是/but, 有时侯 sometime, 汉语/Chinese, 还/still, 因为/because, 健身房/gym, 中国/China, 美国/America, 德国/Germany, 法国/France, 英国/The United Kingdom, 日本/Japan, 看/look, 电/movie, 课/class. (Interpretive reading)

6. TSW follow the rules for writing Chinese characters: 叫/given name is, 什么/what, 名字/name, 姓/surname, 在/in, at, 7. /no, not, 家/home, 了/a particle to indicate change of a situation, 生日/birthday, 几/which, 月/month, 号/date, 国/country, 去/go,学习/learn, 谁/who, 住/live. 一/one, 二/two, 三/three, 四/four, 五/five, 六/six, 七/seven, 八/eight, 九/nine, 十 ten. (Interpretive reading and Presentational writing)

8. TSW recognize and recite numbers from 0 - 20 in Chinese. (Interpretive listening and Presentational speaking)

9. TSW converse with classmates using words for telling the date, month and year. (Interpersonal Communication)

10. TSW self-select and read level-appropriate literature independently for at least 30minuts per week. (Interpretive reading)

1. The Student Will recognize and pronounce Chinese words using pinyin, accurately distinguishing and articulating the four tones. (Presentational speaking)

2. TSW ask and answer questions about his/her city of residence and exchange information about nationality. (Interpersonal Communication)

3. TSW write basic Chinese characters using proper rules and stroke order. (Presentational writing)

1. Pinyin for everyone. Better Chinese 2. Discovering Chinese, volume1, teacher’s guide. Better Chinese 3. Chinese pinyin poster, Chinese strokes and radicals’ poster. 4. Cards about flag of each country. 5. A big calendar board.
