Job Description

Job Title: Hub Manager

Location: County Durham Hub

Introduction

The Place2Be is a school-based counselling service, dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of children up to the age of 13, their families and the whole school community. We are currently working with 172 schools across the UK. Our direct services are available to 58,000 children coping with problems such as bereavement, family breakdown, domestic violence, trauma and bullying and by 2020 we hope to reach 90,000 children in our direct services and over 215,000 children through direct and enabled services such as training and volunteers.

We develop partnerships with clusters of schools (‘hubs’) and in addition to services for the children, we provide support for parents, carers and school staff to strengthen their communication, interaction and work with the children. Our core values are perseverance, integrity, compassion and curiosity and we have over 200 staff and currently count on the commitment of over 700 volunteer counsellors who dedicate their time to working with us. In addition to the training we provide for our own staff and volunteer counsellors, we deliver a range of training programmes to build the skills of staff in schools and children’s centres and adults in the local community. These range from one day workshops through to longer 6 – 15 week accredited programmes as well as a University-validated Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Counselling Children in Schools.

Our 10 Year Strategy is to

 Deepen - to continue to grow, innovate and develop new initiatives  Demonstrate – to place greater emphasis on research and evaluation  Disseminate – to increase public awareness, fundraising capacity and influence on public policy

The Place2Be model is tried and tested, evidence based and without stigma. We continue to innovate and tailor services to meet the needs of individual schools and communities, based on our practical experience and informed by evidence of what works. An economic evaluation of the impact of The Place2Be’s work shows a 600% return on investment through savings due to reduced use of health and welfare services. In line with latest government legislation and guidance, schools and third sector organisations will play a key role in early identification and co- ordinated interventions for children in need.
