WHAT ARE THE PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAVEL TO BRAZIL AND THE INDIAN TERRITORIES?

Brazil requires U.S. citizens to carry a valid U.S. passport and a Brazilian visa when traveling to Brazil for any purpose. You must obtain your Brazilian visa in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate nearest to your place of residence in the United States. There are no "airport visas" and immigration authorities will refuse entry into Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa. The U.S. government cannot assist you if you arrive in Brazil without proper documentation. It takes up to a month to process a new passport, so please plan accordingly. To obtain a visa, your valid passport must be sent to the nearest Brazilian Consulate General (your passport cannot expire within six months of entrance into Brazil and must contain at least 2 blank pages). Do not forget to get a passport and visa or check to make sure that your current passport and visa is valid. There are countless nightmares about Americans arriving in Brazil without one. Since 2010 all visas to Brazil are valid for 10 years multiple entry. The applicant can use the visa for 180 days in total per year. Also make certain your passport does not expire within 6 months of your trip.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED VACCINATIONS FOR THIS TRIP?

A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required to enter into any Indian Territory in Brazil. It’s a Government Regulation to protect Indians. All participants must have their vaccine certificates included within their travel documents. Our host must make a copy to send to the National Indian Institution (FUNAI) in advance, in order to enter the territories. WHAT ARE THE RECOMMENDED VACCINATIONS?

Malaria vaccines are suggested. Please check with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta for up to date recommendations on vaccinations and medicines needed for the Brazilian Amazon.
