2017 Cabell County Schools Grades 6-8 Credit Recovery Summer School Fact Sheet Location Huntington East Middle School Beginning Date Monday, June 26, 2017; Orientation Friday, June 23, Cafeteria: Grades 6-8, 11:00 AM; Grades 9-12, 9:00 AM Ending Date Friday, July 21, 2017 Registration Registration is open to students in grades 6-8 enrolled in Cabell County Schools on or before June 1. Registration will be completed by the student’s counselor by the last day for students. Students must live in county to attend summer school. Registration for middle recovery will also be held in the lobby of the Central Office, June 13-14, from 10 AM-12 PM. The last day to register for summer school will be June 16, 2017 at the orientation meeting at Huntington East Middle during the specific grade level times. Registration Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R2ZSKQZ Attendance Students will attend during designated time blocks between 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Daily attendance is tied to the successful completion of recovery courses or mastery of skills. Students who missed less than 20 days during the school year will be permitted to complete assignments (not tests) at home with the permission of the assigned teacher and parent. Successful Completion Students will complete their course(s) when they have successfully passed every unit test assigned to him/her. For instance, if a student is able to complete the coursework in three weeks, he/she may do so; however, all work must be completed no later than Friday, July 21, 2017. Middle School Subjects English Language Arts 6-8* Math 6-8* Science 6-8 Social Studies 6-8 Can Only Recover 3 credits How students will earn a Content will be delivered through Odysseyware, an online course program. Unit and mastery tests are averaged for a final grade grade for the course. Transcription of Grades The student’s failing grade will remain on the student’s transcript. The recovered grade will be the average of the original final grade with the Odysseyware grade. For example: If a student failed ELA 8 during the regular school year with 55% and then received an 82% in Odysseyware during summer school, his/her transcript would reflect two ELA 8 courses: One will be the original course attempted and the other will be the 82% being averaged with the 55% for his/her cumulative grade point average. The original course grade will be excluded from the GPA calculation. Administrator The summer program will be overseen by Summer School Administrator Schedule 7:45-8:00 AM and 2:30-3:00 PM – Teacher prep, parent conferences, and hallway/bus duty 3:00 PM – Teachers and administrator leave Breakfast and Lunch provided free of charge through summer food program. Starting Times:  8:00 AM  9:30 AM  11:00-11:30 AM Lunch  11:30 AM  1:00 PM **ALL students are dismissed at 2:30** Transportation Transportation will not be provided; however, TTA bus passes are available upon request.
