SUNDT FOUNDATION AWARDS $62,300 TO LOCAL NONPROFITS Nineteen Phoenix organizations receive quarterly grants

PHOENIX (Sept. 1, 2014) - Sundt Construction, Inc.'s Phoenix employees have selected 19 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $62,300 this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $6 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here's a closer look at the Phoenix organizations that recently received funding.

$ 5,500 Grant Recipient Homeward Bound will provide disadvantaged children and their families with food, shelter, clothing and other basic needs to help them thrive.

$ 5,000 Grant Recipient s (7) Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation will use the grant money to provide essential tutoring services for children in foster care within the Phoenix and Tucson areas. Arizona YWCA Metropolitan Phoenix will use the funds to purchase food and supplies for nutritious meals for seniors and disabled adults. The meals will be served at four of the organization’s West Valley satellite dining rooms, as well as delivered to the homebound elderly. Ryan House will continue offering respite care to children in Arizona with life-threatening conditions. The funds will support a variety of life-enhancing therapies designed to alleviate isolation, pain and fear; improve overall quality of life; develop skills; and gain confidence. Save the Family Foundation of Arizona will use the grant money to provide transitional housing, case management, and intervention and prevention education to 450 children in homeless families. Best Buddies of Arizona will continue creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for disadvantaged children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Hope & A Future will use the funds to provide year round life-skills mentoring for Arizona foster children through its LIFE360 program. The program not only offers encouragement to the foster children but teaches them skills like money management, household management, and planning for college and the job force. Child Crisis Center will provide children 11 years old and younger in crisis with temporary care in a safe, home-like environment through its Emergency Shelter Program.

$3,300 Grant Recipient Aid to Adoption of Special Kids (AASK) will use the grant money for its Siblings Program, which reunites brothers and sisters separated in foster care in a healthy environment where they can spend valuable time together as family.

$3,000 Grant Recipient Fresh Start Women’s Foundation will continue helping through its financial literacy programming, which teaches women the basics of managing money and how to work toward a financially stable future.

$2,500 Grant Recipients (3) VALLEYLIFE will improve the lives of its wheelchair-bound members, who need to be transferred several times per day, by offering them a safe alternative to manual transportation. Flagstaff Shelter Services, Inc. will use the funds for its transitional assistance program, which helps homeless individuals with basic budgeting skills, saving money and goal setting so they may secure steady employment and permanent housing. Desert Mission will support the Children’s Dental Clinic, which provides dental care for 1,500 low-income children from their first tooth through age 20. The program provides oral health education and routine dental care, including fillings, extractions and other treatments.

$ 2,0 00 Grant Recipient s ( 2) Pazde Cristo Community Center will use the grant money to provide evening meals and emergency food boxes to single family households, the unemployed, working poor and senior citizens living on a fixed income. Power Paws Assistance Dogs, Inc. will use the funds to offset the cost of training puppies for service and to more efficiently place them with children in need. The highly skilled dogs will help to improve the lives of children with disabilities by providing daily assistance with turning light switches on and off, opening and closing doors, and retrieving items.

$1,000 Grant Recipients (4) K2 Adventures Foundation, a nonprofit that provides equipment, supplies, basic necessities and care to children with disabilities and their families, will use the funds to help buy an adaptive carriage used with miniature horses, which will improve the children’s lives by giving them therapy and adventure. Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels will provide Comfycozy tee-shirts, with hidden pockets, zippers and buttons, designed for children receiving chemotherapy treatment. The tee-shirts will provide dignity during their treatment by allowing the children to keep their clothes on when doctors need to access their central lines. The funds will also help the families with food costs and gas cards for traveling to and from hospital visits. Treasures for Teachers will continue providing classroom supplies and training for teachers of children in low- income households, either at an extremely reduced cost or completely free. By shopping at Treasures for Teachers, teachers are able to not only acquire classroom basics but stock up books, craft projects and educational activities that otherwise would not be available in low-income areas. MentorKids USA will use the grant money to recruit, train and support mentors who empower youth facing tough life challenges to reach their full potential and become transformative members of their families and communities.
