He graduated from Boy’s High School in 26 1937 and Duke University in 1941, where he was an honor 27 student, a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa 28 honorary leadership fraternity, and a competitive swimmer; and 29 30 Whereas, Nick Moise married Cecile Rosenberg from Abbeville in 31 1943, and they enjoyed more than fifty-eight devoted years of 32 marriage; and 33 34 Whereas, Mr. Moise was inducted into the army in 1942 and was 35 commissioned as a second lieutenant in the infantry. He served in 36 the 325th Glider Division until December 1945 and participated in 37 the airborne invasion of Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, and the 38 occupation of Berlin. He received the Bronze Star with a “V” for 39 valor and several campaign ribbons. He went on to complete a 40 twenty-year career in the South Carolina National Guard and the 41 United States Army Reserves; and 42
1 [4131] 1 1 Whereas, Nick Moise joined his father and brother at Moise 2 Insurance Service in 1955. He sold the company in 1979, but 3 continued in the insurance industry as the general agent in South 4 Carolina for Manufacturers and Merchants Mutual Insurance 5 Company until his death; and 6 7 Whereas, Mr. Moise will be greatly missed and not forgotten by 8 the many people whose lives he touched. He was an active 9 member of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter where he served 10 terms as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, and basketball 11 coach. He was also active in the Sumter YMCA, Boy Scouts, 12 Sumter County Museum, Rotary Club, and Covenant Place, where 13 he and his wife lived and were loved by all; and 14 15 Whereas, the General Assembly extends its sympathy to the family 16 of Francis Marion Moise, Jr. Mr. Moise is survived by his wife, 17 Cecile Moise of Sumter; three sons, Marion Moise of Mount 18 Pleasant, Robert Moise of Charleston, and Phil Moise of Atlanta; 19 nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Moise Cavanaugh, Deaver 20 Traywick, Meta Moise, Nina Traywick, Kathryn Moise, George 21 Moise, Walter Moise, Josh Moise, and Harby Moise; a sister, 22 Pauline Moise Harritt of Sumter; three brothers, Robert B. Moise 23 of Holden Beach, North Carolina, James Moise of Sumter, and 24 Francis Moise of Dallas, Texas; and many cousins, nieces, 25 nephews, and their children. Now, therefore, 26 27 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 28 concurring: 29 30 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 31 Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon 32 the death of Mr. Francis Marion Moise, Jr., of Sumter, and extend 33 deepest sympathy to his family and many friends. 34 35 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 36 Mrs. Francis Marion Moise, Jr. 37 ----XX----
