GFOA : GFOA is a not-for-profit membership association that has represented public-sector finance professionals since 1906. Currently, GFOA has more than 18,000 members who look to the association to provide expert assistance on accounting, auditing, and financial reporting issues for state and local governments. Those efforts include the GFOA’s highly regarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (Certificate of Achievement Program), which has been in continuous operation since 1945 and now boasts more than 4,100 participating governments. So too, the GFOA offers extensive national live and online training opportunities and publishes numerous articles and books on accounting and financial reporting topics, including the classic Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting or “Blue Book.” GFOA also publishes the industry’s leading magazine on public finance, hosts an annual conference that attracts more than 6,000 attendees, and maintains a technical inquiry service for the benefit of accounting and auditing professionals who serve state and local governments. GFOA’s Technical Services Center plays a key role in all of these activities.

Description of position : The main role of the successful candidate will be to perform high quality technical reviews of comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFRs) submitted to the Certificate of Achievement Program. Long-range opportunities include instructing training seminars and writing technical articles and publications. The position provides an excellent opportunity for national exposure to government finance as it is practiced at state and local levels.

Required Qualifications: GFOA is looking for a candidate with:

• A Bachelor’s Degree;  Accounting course grade point average of 3.3 or higher;  Cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher;  Attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

 Sufficient Accounting hours to sit for the C.P.A. exam;  Designation as a Certified Public Accountant or an equivalent professional designation.

Compensation: The salary for this position will be determined based on scope of responsibilities. Salary is competitive for the Chicago area, and GFOA offers an excellent package of benefits.
