DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Grants, Title II 2014-2015

Overview: Title II funds authorized under the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act are allocated to each state. They are awarded and monitored by a state advisory group, the Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee (JJAC). The target population is youth under the age of 18 (and their families), who have had contact with the juvenile justice system or who are at risk of having contact with the juvenile justice system. The goal is to prevent or divert youth involvement in the juvenile justice system and to eliminate or minimize disproportionate minority contact.

Grantee Program Renewal Grants Children's Hospitals and The Runaway Intervention Program (RIP) helps restore sexually exploited Clinic of MN runaway youth to healthy developmental trajectories. Life Work Planning Center Project Succeed empowers Latina young women to graduate from school and to avoid high-risk social behaviors through gender and culturally-specific prevention education. Opportunity Neighborhood Ames After Hours provides youth educational and enrichment activities in a Development safe and nurturing environment at Ames Lake Neighborhood housing community in St. Paul. RESOURCE-Employment First Opportunity provides school-based delinquency prevention Action Center programming for at-risk youth ages 12-14. Stearns County Human Development of a multi-disciplinary, coordinated approach for crossover Services youth, those involved in both the child welfare and juvenile justice system. New Awards Beltrami Area Service The Intervention Program for youth engaging in behaviors which put them at Collaborative risk for Juvenile and/or CHIPs Court involvement includes preventative restorative practices in area schools and pre-adjudication diversion. Faribault Youth Services Expansion of out of school time programming for 25 Latino youth in grades Center 4~8 utilizing the Search Institute’s Sparks! Program with additional focus on under-represented Somali neighborhoods. Minneapolis American The Ginew/Golden Eagle youth development program follows a Native Indian Center American culture specific Resilience Building Curriculum designed to highlight and enhance participant’s healthy life choices, school performances and attendance. Urban Boat Builders A youth development program that uses the building of wooden boats as a vehicle toward developing academic, life and work skills; includes an Apprenticeship Program that pays stipends to at risk youth while developing tangible career skills.
