Wilson PTA General Meeting Minutes November 1, 2012 Prepared by Kristina Allen The meeting was held in the Wilson Cafeteria at 6 PM, followed by a performance by K and 1st grade students.

Board members present: Ja-Tina Bolling, Gina Izer, Jen Jones, Veleta Bolling, Kristina Allen, Pam Davis, Norman Cruz, Cynthia White, Tancie Garrison, and Melissa Deaton.

PTA President Ja-Tina Bolling started the meeting with a welcome and she thanked everyone for coming. She introduced the PTA board officers.

PTA Vice-President of Membership Pam Davis presented an overview of the current membership: We currently have 233 members and the goal is to have 100% participation by Dec 1 (i.e. 505 members). At the end of the meeting, an IPod Touch was raffled off to a PTA member by Principal Bishop. Membership monies (and all other PTA income) are used to benefit Wilson. For example it funds teacher stipends, equipment repair, supplies, a $500-stipend to fund the new music classes etc. To encourage more memberships, there will be a treasure box in each grade level where the students with new memberships get to pick out a reward.

Next, PTA Vice-President of Fundraising Veleta Bolling said that Spirit Cup orders are due on Thursday November 8. The Spirit Cups are a fabulous stocking stuffer for any sports fan: NFL, baseball, collegiate teams, and they even come in 5 US military selections. Only $15 for 4 cups. The next fundraiser is the cookie dough sale in January.

Long-sleeve Spirit Shirts are available (in limited quantities). They are $12 each. We will soon sell green and yellow hoodies as well.

We will have Spirit Nights at Salsaritas!! The first Salsaritas Spirit Night is scheduled for Nov. 15. If lunch or dinner is eaten at Salsaritas that day and a Wilson Spirit Night flyer is turned in at check-out, a percentage of the purchase will be given to Wilson.

Publix cards will be distributed soon: by scanning the card at check-out at Publix, a percentage of that sale goes to Wilson. This is another way to get “free” money for Wilson Elementary School.

PTA Treasurer Gina Izer gave a budget report. So far, we have made a $510 profit in t-shirt sales, a $1,500 profit from memberships (that is after we pay the state and national dues), and $999 from the Box Top collection. That is fabulous and about twice as many Box Tops as expected. We will collect them again in the spring so keep saving them. The class with the most Box Tops in each grade won a classroom party. The winning classrooms were Ms. Messick, Ms. Ellis, Ms. Nelson, Ms. Burt, Ms. Coblentz, and Ms. Greer.

Ms. Izer also gave an explanation about the bank fraud perpetrated on the PTA. The funds have been restored and the thief has been arrested. The PTA was commended for being so diligent and discovering the fraud within 3 weeks.

The PTA Yearbook Chair Jen Jones said that the yearbook is being worked on already and parents and teachers can help by sharing their pictures for potential use in the yearbook. EShare is a free service provided by the yearbook publisher, Herff Jones, and is monitored by the Wilson yearbook staff. She said she needs a kindergarten coordinator for the yearbook.

Wilson Principal Meredith Bishop concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for coming and by presenting the k and 1st grade students who did a wonderful performance.

“Coming together for endless possibilities”.
