ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate or IHSA Coaching Certificate 2 years coaching experience Desktop publishing, database proficiency Good written and verbal communication skills Good organizational skills

REPORTS TO: MS/HS Principal

JOB GOAL: To insure a smooth and efficient extra-curricular athletic program for the entire school system, providing opportunities for all interested students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  Hires and supervises officials for all home athletic contests  Hires and supervises ticket takers for all home athletic contests  Schedules events and sees that all athletic schedules are approved and placed on the District calendar  Sees that each event has logistical support: timers, scorers, gatekeepers, etc and completes all necessary paperwork to ensure proper payment  Submits athletic schedules in a timely fashion to the transportation coordinator  Oversees the implementation of the District Athletic Policy  Responsible for the care of all athletic and P.E equipment  Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all athletic equipment of the District  Mentors all coaches. Listen to coaching concerns, etc  Works with administration in the selection, evaluation, and supervision of coaches  Represents the District in conference meetings  Represents the District and participates in all coop meeting  Maintains insurance and physical records of all district athletes  Conducts tournaments; pursue their acquisition at ______whenever possible  Sees that the programs for events are printed  Coordinates and supervises athletic awards programs  Sees that athletic award program nights are established prior to the beginning of a given season, and sees that the date is announced and published in the program expectation sheet given each athlete  Sees that each coach has an expectation meeting with athletes and parents  Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas  Sees that the playing field/court is ready for play  Sees that each coach has written end-of-the-year summary for each and every one of his/her players. On that report should be the strengths of that individual player and suggestions of things to improve/work for the coming season.  Help the coaches with seeing that scouts/game tapes are sent to area colleges  Meets with the head coaches to ensure that the ______Athletic Philosophy permeates the entire athletic program.  Keep notes on coaching performances o that you have a reference point for discussion and documantation for the evaluation process in which he/she will have input.  See that each coach has a parent meeting before or during the first week of practice.  See that each coach has team expectations outlined in writing for distribution at the parent meeting and keep a copy of such in director’s office. Terms of Employment: Commensurate with each playing season. Salary to be negotiated with the local bargaining unit.
