To receive a report on Tallington Village Hall: Wally Knox reported as follows: “A reasonably successful year with our customary range of activities and events namely Whist, Welcome Club, Post Office, Toddlers Group and Table Tennis with two teams participating in the Stamford League and junior coaching. Main income providers are the Post Office, Toddlers Group, 200 Club, car park hire, monthly socials and other lettings such as children’s parties. In our monthly socials the favourites remain strawberries and cream in the summer, barbecue evening, soup evening, cheese and wine, quiz and fish and chip supper, harvest festival buffet and the Christmas social. The committee have decided to keep to the last Friday of the month whenever possible and to publicise all events through Towers and Spires and posters in the village notice boards.

The major event of the past year has been the installation of new playing field equipment with grant funding under the auspices of “Fields in Trust” and the “Queen Elizabeth Trust” and hard work by the village hall committee particularly Tom Klimes and Andy Yates. An official dedication by Alan Thurlby took place in July. The playing field is now known as “The Queen Elizabeth Playing Field”, the trustees are the Parish Council and, together with the village hall, it is held in trust in perpetuity for the residents of the village.

Some of you may remember that it all started with the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977! After fund raising in the village a donation was made to a central fund and at a public meeting in September 1978 a decision was taken to accept Alan Thurlby’s offer of a piece of land for the creation of a village playing field. The balance of the Jubilee fund was then used to install swings and a slide, a year before the village school closed and two years before the school became the village hall.

The committee continue their voluntary work to maintain the village hall and playing field and raise funds towards the increasing costs involved. Particularly appreciated are “The Cleaners”, organised by Liz Allen and who would welcome additional help. Also, “The Caterers” who provide our refreshments at the monthly socials. “The Three Johns” who maintain our playing field and the village hall. Please continue to support the 200 club, thanks to organisers Liz and John Allen and the collectors in the village.

Finally, we can report that the Tallington A Table Tennis Team, led by Richard Allen have reached the final of the Ketco Cup, a handicap competition organised by the Stamford & Rutland Table Tennis League, we wish them luck. 8. Edward Heron Trust: Mr Thurlby reported the Charity had a fairly uneventful year, income remained steady at about £20,000 and its shares went up a little in response to the trend on the stockmarket, with a capital account to the value of about £250,000. On the payment side our main expenses were: Christmas Fuel payments £3,000 Senior Citizens Christmas Party £1,000 Grants to Tallington PCC and Village Hall, Uffington School, Insurance, Anglian Water etc.

Mr Thurlby thanked the other trustees - Mrs A Knox, Mrs P O’Malley, Mr R Ransom, Mr J Smith, Messrs A & M Thurlby. Our aims remain for the benefit of charitable causes in the village of Tallington.

Mr Thurlby will submit the accounts when approved at the meeting on 22nd May 2014.

9. Neighbourhood Watch: No representatives were present, we therefore assume “no news is good news”, Tallington does tend to have a low crime rate. 10.
