Australian Yachting Federation Inc. National Officiating Program National Race Officer Assessment & Experience Guidelines
A candidate for assessment as a National Race Officer must be a highly experienced race officer capable of running regatta’s at the highest level and prior to lodging an application for direct on water assessment meet the following guidelines:
Be recommended by an AYF Member Yachting Authority – by Race Management Committee or similar body if one exists.
Have attended a State Race Officers Workshop
Have passed the Race Management written or oral test at a satisfactory level
Have acted as the Race Officer for a course over an entire regatta at not less than five events in the past four years. At least two of these must have been a National Event or higher, the remainder must have been State Events or higher.
Hold an AYF TL3 certificate with Rescue Boat Endorsement
Present themselves for an on water assessment by a Yachting Victoria Assessor. The assessment will include seeking feed back form the competitors.
* The AYF is the sole authority for determining whether an event is a State or National Event.
Examples of what may be considered are as State and National Events are:
State Events
State Championships with more than 20 boats and 8 Clubs represented Major Match Racing Events with more than 8 boats and 4 Clubs represented.
National Events
Sail Downunder Series of regattas World Championships events Interdominion Championships with more than 20 boats Australian Championships with more than 25 boats and 4 States/Territories represented Australian Match Racing Championships, Australia Cup, Lexcen Cup Pre Olympic events Southern Cross Cup Sail Sydney regatta Go for Gold regatta
F/Drive/Training/Qualifications/National Race Officer Assessment & Exp Guidelines DEFINITIONS
The term Principal Race Officer means the person in charge of a team of Race Officers that each are in charge of a particular course in a regatta.
The term RACE OFFICER means the person in charge of a particular course area for the duration of a regatta. The Race Officer must have been involved in the planning and organisational roles in putting together the race management team and have the overall control and responsibility for the team.
HOW TO APPLY
The candidate should:
Complete the Application for Assessment as a National Race Officer and have the AYF Member Yachting Authority endorse as indicated. This should be done by the appropriate Race Management Committee where one exists.
Enclosed a copy of the TL3 Logbook showing the TL3 certificate with Rescue Boat Endorsement.
A cheque for $60 made payable to the Yachting Victoria which is a contribution towards the cost of travel expenses for the assessment. (Wait until YV advises for this)

Yachting Victoria will deal with the application as soon as possible, however, candidates are advised that on water assessment may be delayed due to insufficient numbers in the one area at the particular time.
Please Note: National Race Officers will be appointed for a term of four years and the qualification for reappointment will be the same minimum standard as for a new appointment.
