Scrapbook Book Project

Name______Per. ______Character Scrapbook Book Project Genre: Fiction Due: This project will be a character study of a major character in your book and will take the form of a super-sized scrapbook page. You are to create the scrapbook page as if it were put together by the major character in your book. This project will all be written in the first person, from your major character’s point of view. Do your best to make your character seem as real as you can, taking into account the way they talk, a unique accent, their age, or the time period they are from. Use the graphic organizers attached to help plan out your scrapbook page. For each section of this project, there is a suggested completion date. Please make sure you have at least completed your rough draft for each section by the suggested date, if not the final draft. Feel free to bring your rough drafts to school if you would like to review it together. Please also aim to have your book finished no later than ______. Requirements

Scrapbook Page Design Suggested Completion Date:  Use poster board or construction paper that is large enough to easily display all the requirements.  The scrapbook page background should reflect the main setting of the story. You will glue/tape the other scrapbook elements listed below over the main background.  Use construction paper and other materials to draw and create the background. You may NOT use pictures printed from the computer!!!  The background should also include the character’s name, the title of the book, the author’s name, your name and the genre.  Be creative about how you incorporate each of these elements. Colorful, unique fonts or other details that make the background stand out are a plus!  Remember, you want to make your page appear as if the character has created it themselves and it should look like a real scrapbook page (just supersized)! Journal Entry: Suggested Completion Date: Write a journal entry that gives a summary of the book from the major character’s point of view. The journal entry should:  be written in complete sentences  include a brief description of the following: major character, setting, major events, and the conflict, but do NOT give away the ending  it should explain the main idea without retelling the entire story  be typed or written on a sheet of paper and stapled, glued, or taped onto the page  include a date that reflects the “date” within the story Friends and Family Mini-Book Suggested Completion Date:  Create a mini book containing at least 3 friends or family members of the major character using the instructions provided.  On the page next to their picture, write a 1-2 sentence caption explaining who they are and why they are important to the major character. Souvenir or Memento for Theme Suggested Completion Date:  Draw, create, collect, or find 1 souvenir that the main character would have put in a scrapbook to represent the theme of the story.  This object should reflect events in the story or important aspects of your character that can teach the reader a lesson.  The souvenir/memento needs to be attached to the scrapbook page carefully, so it doesn’t fall off. You can place it in a small plastic bag if this is an easier way for you to display it.  Include a 1 sentence explanation (typed or handwritten) next to the object describing its significance. A Letter From One Character to Another Suggested Completion Date:  This must be at least one page in length typed or handwritten, double spaced.  Must be in letter format.  Once the letter is written, fold it and place it in an envelope. Do NOT seal the envelope. Attach the envelope with the flap up to the scrapbook page.  Choose one of the following topics and write from the major character’s point of view: 1. Describe a problem and ask for solutions in resolving a conflict. Make sure to stay in character and write what the character would write. 2. Discuss an issue of importance, such as violence, drugs, or parents, and explain the character's feelings on the subject. 3. Explain an incident from the book where an event dramatically changed that character's life and taught him/her something. Spelling, Grammar, Punctuation, Neatness  Make sure your spelling, grammar, and punctuation are correct and that the overall look of the scrapbook is creative and neatly constructed.  Make sure you have re-read your sentences so they make sense and are written from your main character’s point of view.
