PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

We provide students with the interactive web-based software Compass Learning Odyssey (CLO) from CompassLearning.com. Odyssey’s curriculum is aligned to the Washington’s Academic Learning Standards and Requirements. We provide laptop and internet connection free of cost to every student.

The highlight of our program for children who are performing significantly below grade level is that the students can work at their own pace, listening to directions as many times as they require. We also execute summer programs to enable such students recover skills and credit while progressing at their own pace.

The instructional approach behind designing the software is direct instruction and scaffolded learning. Students are not introduced to higher concepts until they master the basic fundamentals of a concept. Media rich content and flash based activities help keep the learner engaged while grasping important concepts. The program is based on credited and widely accepted scientific research and follows the recommendations of the National Reading Panel and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

We offer tutor intervention to help the student understand the concepts and clarify doubts. We hire tutors who have had previous experience in working with ELL students and students with disabilities. We have bilingual tutors that can tutor in both Spanish and English.

Since the program is offered online, no transportation is required and our services can be availed of by the student in the comfort of his or her home. Each student is provided a user name and password to access our program 24 x7. Our bi-weekly progress reporting and weekly phone-based communication with parents/guardians, school and district staff helps keep them updated on their child’s progress.

CLO can provide assistive support to develop reading, speaking, listening, and vocabulary skills in ten languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Haitian/Creole, Hmong, Mandarin, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Japanese, and Portuguese. 24hourstutoring Inc.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Your child will improve in Math or Reading with College Tutors. We provide one-on-one tutoring with a trained tutor. Imagine having the same dedicated tutor working directly with your child in sessions created specifically for your child’s ability. A caring tutor who is excited to help your child understand will surely improve grades and confidence. A parent using College Tutors says, "The tutor has established an excellent working relationship...she has identified the weaknesses and strengths... she has made the maximum efforts to improve reading comprehension. As the parents of the kids, we have recognized their significant improvement."

We provide tutoring in your home, at school, or a library. Sessions are either after school, in the evening, or on a weekend, at a time convenient for your family. Sessions are 60 to 90 minutes in length, twice weekly. Your child will work with the same tutor, fostering a positive relationship while improving skills. Students look forward to sessions since the time is focused directly on them!

College Tutors makes learning fun by using exciting tools (cards, dice, puzzles, games, special storybooks, etc). College Tutors does not require additional technology and provides all materials. Our sessions provide a live tutor (no online or computer programs) and each session is direct one-on-one teaching to your child. How do we do this? Student information is gathered from parents and school regarding specific learning needs. A brief assessment at the first session helps, too. College Tutors combines this information and develops a Learning Plan. Then we prepare a customized program for reading and/or mathematics to match the need and assist your child in achieving school success. Research proves individualized connections mean improved grades. College Tutors provides feedback after each session so your family knows just what the student is working on and can celebrate success. A+ Advantage Point Learning

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Abacus In-Home Tutoring, Inc. delivers the individualized instruction students need to meet their academic goals in reading and mathematics. Abacus specializes in working with all students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade, including those with disabilities and English language learners. For our in-home program, tutors travel directly to the student's home at times convenient to families. For our small group program (no more than 5 students per instructor), tutorial sessions are provided directly after school hours at safe and convenient public locations that are easily accessible by public transportation.

Abacus uses an individualized teaching model, emphasizing one-on-one attention and customized lessons. Abacus instructors are certified teachers or degreed professionals with a minimum of 60 college credit hours. All instructors must successfully pass all required background and reference checks, and must undergo mandatory initial and ongoing training to ensure a high quality program.

Abacus utilizes pre and post-assessments from Pearson Education including the KTEA II, the GRADE/GMADE and the R/MLI. Once the student has been assessed, Abacus staff meet with parents/guardians and school district staff to incorporate student test data, IEP and/or 504 plans (where applicable), learning styles and preferences. An individualized student learning plan (SLP) is then created for each student with goals that are aligned to the Washington EALRs. Abacus uses Pearson curriculum materials, all of which are aligned with the Washington EALRs in both reading and mathematics, as well as the National Reading Panel and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Parents, teachers and school district staff receive written progress reports each month outlining the student’s progress toward the goals from the SLP. Progress reports are available in English and Spanish but Abacus will make every effort to accommodate speakers of all languages. Students who complete the Abacus program show an average of a year’s worth of growth! Acadamia.net, Inc.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Every Student Can Learn to Read!™ Thousands of students around the world have learned to read with the Academic Associates Reading Program. Reading skills using phonics are taught step-by-step so that students gradually and gently develop complete reading proficiency. The program is scientifically designed to cooperate with the whole brain by streamlining the flow of data, which simplifies and accelerates the process of learning to read. All students are taught by a Reading Instruction Specialist, individually or in a small group, in a safe, nurturing environment. In just 30 to 60 hours, most students are reading at grade level or higher, and usually they have gained 2-4 years in ability! Students learn to read and succeed in other areas as well. Even students with dyslexia, AD/HD, and other learning challenges find success in our program.

We have impressive success in math instruction as well. Students are able to work on the concepts they are currently learning at school. They improve their grades without losing momentum! With no pressure, blame or embarrassment, instructors help them understand the material, assist them in processing the instructions on their homework, and insure that it is completed correctly. Students can prep for tests, review material already learned, and work ahead. No wonder our students enjoy coming to our center!

Best of all, we are WA state certified teachers based in Wenatchee. We are able to provide your student with quality classes right in our center, so we don’t have to rent out space from the school. Simply put, that means we can give your student more hours of tutoring than out-of-town agencies can provide.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

We have been a successful on line SES provider for mathematics in 16 states for over 4 years, and have received over 400 testimonials from parents praising us for the improvement in math performance their students have received.

Aligned to the state mathematics curriculum, our program reinforces classroom learning and helps students retain what is taught in a 1:1 tutor: student ratio. Students go online for 3-4 one hour sessions per week. Since we are online there are not the usual time and transportation barriers found with traditional tutoring. Students work from their home whenever it is convenient for them via the internet using the laptop that we provide for program use. Regardless of a district’s Per Pupil Allocation (PPA), we will provide a minimum of 30 hours of tutoring to students with no additional cost to parents or school districts. If agreed to by the school district, we will allow students to have unlimited access to our learning platform even after the funding has been spent. Students can tutor until the end of the school year at no cost to parents/school district.

The process starts with students taking a curriculum-based assessment at their grade level to identify their strengths and challenges. Based on the results of the assessment, an Individual Learning Plan is created specifically for that student. Students using our platform experience an average 15 point increase in pre and post-testing. 83% of our students reported that their math grades went up in school. In our home state of Georgia, 67% of students passed/exceed the state math test with us, 15% higher than the average SES tutor. Several students have gone from getting D’s and F’s in math to getting B’s and A’s. The success of our students is a testimony to the effectiveness of our platform. Achievement Matters, Inc

AU will assist school districts in Washington by offering purposeful, focused instruction to help students achieve specific targeted goals aligned to Washington’s reading and math standards, as well as the individual district instructional program. We offer services online in the comfort and safety of the student’s home with a pre programmed laptop computer and dial-up Internet service at no cost. Students in grades K-8 and those that perform below the ninth grade instructional level will use the SuccessMaker® curriculum and students in grades 9-12 and those that perform above an eighth grade instructional level will use the Odyssey curriculum.

The family home must have an analog telephone, existing Internet service in the home, or be in a T-Mobile or Verizon cellular area.

Since July 2003, we have provided SES to over 30,000 students in over 500 school districts in 32 states.

Tutors monitor student progress online and work with schools and classroom teachers to ensure student efforts in the program are helping them succeed in their regular classroom.

Students are assessed to determine their instructional level and learning objectives. Next, the curriculum is adjusted and set to provide activities at the appropriate level. Students are encouraged to complete two one- hour sessions per week.

Staff monitors student progress online and follows-up with e-mails/calls to the student and calls to their parents once each week. These telephone calls are conducted in Spanish or Hmong, if requested. Monthly written reports are sent to parents (English/Spanish/Hmong).

From 2006 through 2010, data was gathered from parents about how their K-8 students in our program progressed in their regular classrooms. Our most recent survey (2009-10) results show that 99% (740) of the parents are satisfied with the quality of the services they received from ATS Project Success, 88% (657) felt that their children’s attitude toward school improved, and 90% saw an improvement in their children’s grades. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Avalon utilizes trained bilingual tutors, online educational tools and small group instruction to benefit students who are in need of academic support. Avalon’s tutors are able to translate lessons into student’s native language, ensuring that information is understood. Students who receive dual language instruction are often better able to grasp phonetic concepts and develop reading skills.

In addition to bilingual instruction, Avalon uses computerized educational tools along with print materials. This will allow Avalon to address the learning strengths and styles of each student. Variety in approaches ensures that students have the opportunity to review concepts in a manner that suits their learning style.

With small group instruction Avalon is able to maximize resources and personnel while still meeting the needs of academically struggling students. Trained tutors work with a group of no more than five students. Students are grouped based on the results of their pre-assessments, placed in a small group with others who need additional instruction in the same areas. Babbage Net School

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Babbage Net School leverages the power of a personal computer paired with a self-paced individualized tutoring program to provide the highest quality tutoring available. In addition to an individualized curriculum loaded onto a laptop computer, each student is supported by tutors accredited by the National Tutoring Association (NTA) and our Help Hotline. Our customized tutoring program allows Babbage Net School to cater to the individual educational needs of each student.

After enrollment, student skill and comprehension is assessed using the Pearson Vue Basic Achievement Skills Inventory (BASI). Based on the results of the BASI assessment, as well as input from parents and teachers, an individualized curriculum tailored to the student’s needs is created from our library of lessons. The curriculum is then loaded onto a laptop and delivered to students. The computer is locked to only allow students access to the tutoring software. All necessary technology is included with the program, and no internet connection is required. Students move through lessons at their own pace, being assessed at the end of each lesson to monitor progress. Regular progress reports outlining student achievement towards goals are sent to families on a monthly basis. Additionally, parents can view their student’s progress in real time by accessing the home screen of the tutoring program on the student’s laptop computer, which lists the lessons completed by the student, the student’s mastery score for each lesson, and the amount of time the student spent on each lesson. At the close of the program, students take a post-assessment to show overall improvement through the Babbage program. Building The Bridges

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Learning is Fun!!! At Carney Educational Services, (CES), we want to engage young people in a variety of learning activities in order to awaken an interest in the world around them and help them imagine their place in it. CES believes that all students can learn when given instruction that is personalized to their performance levels and is presented in an engaging and motivating way. We believe that together with teachers and parents we can close the gap between the nation that reads and the nation that doesn’t.

Students enrolled in the CES program are tutored in their own homes, according to their personal schedules. Parent input is sought and respected. Tutors regularly bring parents into the learning process and appreciate their insight. CES tutors are encouraged to report to parents their assessment results and progress during each visit.

Instruction is based on the immediate needs facing each student as diagnosed in the initial assessment and subsequent screens. Our tutors engage, empower and motivate students towards grade level proficiency. There is communication with classroom teachers to make sure each student is receiving the maximum benefits from their tutoring time. This kind of student-centered instruction guarantees the most progress that each student is capable of making; considering where they start and their own abilities.

CES welcomes students who are English Language learners, special education students, and those students far below grade level. Our teachers are bilingual and hand selected to reflect the cultural diversity of the students we serve.

Every tutor providing tutoring:

• Must be fingerprinted by a private Live scan operator, or through their school district of employment. • Must have a negative chest x-ray or TB test result. • Are regularly evaluated to ensure quality instruction.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

At Eduwizards all online tutoring is one-to-one and can be conveniently taken from student’s home. We provide free computers to students who don’t have one and also pay the internet bill. Tutoring takes place using our virtual classroom, which includes white board, text, and voice chat. Along with instruction, continuous online assessments are conducted to map student progress and identify areas of strength and weakness. Our research and data indicates that this combination of tutoring and assessment gives students a higher jump in performance.

The classroom size is one student and one instructor which allows for maximum concentration, focus, and attention. The tutor can take individual care and pay attention to the student’s need. All our sessions are recorded online and available for later viewing by students, parents and tutors.

Eduwizards curriculum is fully aligned to state specific benchmarks. Curriculum materials, including individual lessons developed by experienced educators, are already part of our curriculum library, and can be uploaded into the tutoring session virtual classroom.

To carefully monitor student progress we have devised a two-education-experts per student system (one being the tutor and the other the tutor-coordinator). These experts continually monitor student progress.

Our tutors are USA-based and most of them are state certified, with a Master’s degree or higher. We have an open review system where after each online session the student has an option to review the tutor. This helps Eduwizards to openly identify and retain only the best online tutors. We offer bilingual tutors who focus on state-specific standards. Regular studies conducted using pre-assessment and post-assessment show marked improvement in the performance of our students. The effectiveness of our program is further demonstrated by the fact that our web site is full of great reviews from satisfied students and parents. Evergreen Human Development Academy

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Children are the most precious resource a nation can have. The future depends on the kinds of children we raise. At a time when the global economy has created financial insecurity, and at a time when jobs are scarce, and time is virtually non-existent, the quality of a child?s education may not take foremost importance. Evergreen Human Development Academy wants to assist the wonderful parents and teachers who are educating and raising children with more and more limited resources. We want to build a bridge between the students and teachers, between teachers and parents, between parents and children, by creating a virtual database of each child?s character, strengths, behavior, personality etc--- thereby creating comprehensive info about the child, which can help in devising a program that will develop a well rounded student. This will create a net for each child so he/she does not fall through the cracks.

We supplement the curriculum at school by ensuring the homework is completed and also by augmenting the study materials to help him/ her have a deeper understanding of the subject matter they are learning about. We use effective studying methods that help the children excel in school and later on in life. We research methods that have been used before to turn out high performing students. We use the same tactics to engage the children in activities that will help him/ her meet the potential inside.

Our whole effort is to create a fun, learning environment, where we produce children who develop life skills that will help them have a high performance in life. To achieve this, and to raise children who will grow up to fulfill high ideals of excellence and integrity. we partner with the schools and the parents. Extraordinary Environmental Institute

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

It is the belief of the Extraordinary Environmental Institute (EEI) that all children can learn if given the individualized instruction, time and attention each needs to be successful. We also believe that children reflect their homes, communities and cultures. Our educational program will reflect the uniqueness of each individual, celebrating their backgrounds, gifts and contributions.

Research shows that pre-teaching subject matter which the students are likely to encounter builds confidence, improves understanding and performance. Our model will be based on this research. Instructional programs will be provided during summer vacation, school breaks and before new units are introduced during the school year.

Certificated teachers will work one-on-one to address the individual learning needs to each student, communicating with the school and complimenting the efforts of the classroom’s instructional program and curriculum.

Children who struggle need more time on-task. Many need a longer learning day, but with a different approach to learning than is used in the classroom. In addition to individual tutoring, small group learning strategies will be employed that make learning fun, while reinforcing essential learning.

Relationships matter. All students need to know that they are valued and respected. They need to know that others have high expectations of them, and hopes that they will accomplish great things in their lives. For this reason, we place our Supplemental Educational Services in the community in which they are a part. By partnering with churches, Boys and Girls Clubs and community centers, we can work together to provide the wrap-around support that children need to be successful. Through contacts with mentors who use reading, science and math in their every day work, students will develop an understanding of the importance of these subjects for their everyday lives. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Mathnasium is a learning center where kids go after school to boost their math skills. We are highly specialized; we only teach math. Our program is for kids in grades 1 through 12. Students attend once or twice a week, for about an hour. Our goal is to significantly increase a child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts, and overall school performance, while building confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

The Mathnasium Method uses a unique combination of mental, verbal, visual, tactile, and written techniques to help children learn math.

MENTAL

Students are taught how and when to use mental math techniques. This enables them to dispense with needless paper–and–pencil work and focus on the task at hand.

Example:

99 + 99 + 99 =

Instead of setting this problem as a vertical addition problem, students are taught to think, “100 + 100 + 100 –

3 = 300 – 3 = 297.”

VERBAL

Language is used as an integral part of the program. Students are taught the meaning of root words in the mathematics context. Students are also taught how to explain their thought process and reasoning verbally.

VISUAL

Meaningful pictures, charts, and tables are used to explain ideas and concepts. Many of the problems in the workbooks are “pictured–based,” providing students with insights into problems that transcend the written words.

The high-quality video lessons are student-friendly and align to state standards and most textbooks. The one- on-one videos correspond to daily classroom instruction to improve student achievement. The lessons include high-interest materials, models, real-world problems and age-appropriate games to engage and motivate students throughout the program.
