Guard/Public Safety Officer

Purpose

Purpose: Provide service and information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Safeguard University property; enforce University parking rules and regulations, and routine operation of University Shuttle Buses. Essential Functions

Function 1: Patrol University buildings and property on foot to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Lock and unlock buildings and interior offices to maintain campus security. Prepare written documents and such activities. 20 % Time Function 2: Assist motorist via jumpstarting motor vehicles. 15 % Time Function 3: Drive University Shuttle Bus on and off campus, check condition of the buses, and report needed assignments and repairs. 15 % Time Function 4: Prepare and issue written citations for vehicles violating University parking regulations. 25 % Time Function 5: Locate and identify safety hazards and defective or malfunctioning equipment. Prepare written reports to document such items for repair. 10 % Time Function 6: Process recovered/found property. This includes a proper chain of custody, secure handling practices, and correct disposition of the property. 5 % Time Function 7: Escort persons to parking lots and University buildings during periods of darkness by foot or using a University motor vehicle. 5 % Time Function 8: Assist in the rescue of persons stranded in inoperable elevators in multi-level University buildings. Prepare written reports to document such activities. 5 % Time Marginal/Incidental Functions

Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other functions as assigned. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: High school graduation or equivalent. Current Texas CDL license or obtain within 6 months of hire date. Good communication skills. Physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Police Guard of the University of Texas System Police.
