Ü Cushy for Your Tushy - Use a Pillow on Your Chair All Day!

Class Behavior Plan 1G

I use a stoplight behavior model in the classroom. We have a stoplight hanging in our classroom under our smart board with easy access for students. If your child is on a green light this means that they are listening, following rules and working to their potential. When your child has a yellow light on the wall it means that they were asked 2 times to correct their behavior and have chosen not to make better choices. A yellow light is a warning. Red means that the behavior has been addressed, a yellow light has already been issued, the correct behavior has been modeled and wrong choices have still been made.

I believe that we can all make mistakes. Therefore, the point of this program is to teach students what is expected and allow them to grow from their experiences. If a child receives a yellow or red light, and changes their behavior, they may earn back their green light. The class celebrates each time a first grade friend earns their green light back! Furthermore, each day your child will reflect on their behavior as they color in their behavior card. The behavior card will be kept at school until your child has filled up all sixteen circles. Once they have filled up their card they will get to choose from our “Fantastic First Grade Behavior Catalog”! This catalog provides an opportunity for your child to choose something special as an incentive for good behavior. The choices are listed below.  “Cushy for your Tushy”- Use a pillow on your chair all day!  “Student Teacher”- Be the teacher’s helper all day!  “Star Performer”- Read a poem on the morning announcements!  “Cool School Supplies”-Use the teacher’s *special* supplies to do your work for the day!  “Bring a Stuffed Friend”  Trading Places”- Trade desks with a classmate and sit by a friend for the day!  “DJ for the day”- Bring in a CD (school appropriate) from home to share with the class throughout the day!  “Shoes Optional”- Wear your slippers or fun socks in the classroom!  “Show & Tell”- Bring in a toy, book or game that is your favorite to share with the class! (Item must fit in backpack)  “Read Aloud Reader”- Bring in a favorite book and read it to the class! Mrs. Ghrist can read the book as well if you would prefer!  “Lunch in the Room”- Pick a friend from our class and eat lunch with the teacher!  “Hat Day”- Wear your favorite hat!  “Making Headlines”- Get a form to take home and fill out all about you! Bring it back to school and share with the class!  “Treasure Chest”- Choose one item from the treasure chest! If your child receives a yellow or red light and has not corrected behavior by the end of the school day, you will receive a note filled out by your child and the teacher explaining the behavior that occurred. If the situation is ongoing we will meet and develop a plan that will help your child make better choices and excel in our classroom! Our goal is to work together to ensure that all first graders are moving forward and taking responsibility for their actions. I hope we can work together to let the students know that we are all a team. Thanks for your support!
