TITLE: Supervisor Information Technology

POSITION INFORMATION

DEFINITION: Under the general supervision of a manager in an information technology organization, supervises and directs the operation of a Network support unit (mainframe and/or client server environment) of at least five (5) employees responsible for development, implementation, and maintenance of multi-network, multi-user Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), and/or Wide Area Networks (WAN), and the provision of tier 3 technical support to end users. Provides lead support in the diagnosis and resolution of complex operational problems; directs problem diagnosis; supervises the monitoring and allocation of staff resources, the use of productivity aids, and the maintenance of software and hardware in mainframe and/or client/server environments with related peripherals; plans, evaluates, tests, implements and maintains network technology solutions as appropriate for the technology unit assigned; and does related work as required.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of experience in an Information Technology Operational Support unit for a large public or private information processing facility, including at least three (3) years of experience with an information technology operational support unit supporting a multiplatform Client Server LAN or WAN environment or Mainframe operation. JOB SPECIFICATION EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION NOTE: A. EXPERIENCE FOR EDUCATION 1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the four-year education requirement on a year for year basis.

2. Training hours approved by the Department of Personnel can be substituted for the education requirement where sixteen (16) contact hours equals one (1) semester credit hour. B. EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE 1. Thirty (30) semester hour credits in Information Technology may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

2. A Master's degree in Information Technology or related studies may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Microsoft Windows/Active Directory Engineer is a highly technical position responsible for the design, implementation, administration, security, maintenance and support of the department’s Active Directory-based environment. The environment is comprised of a multi-site, multi- forest Active Directory infrastructure, and supports Microsoft Exchange-based messaging services, Microsoft SharePoint collaboration services, Microsoft SQL Services, Single Sign-on services, File and Print Services, Microsoft-based configuration and software update management systems, systems performance management and infrastructure management tools.

The selected candidate will lead and work with users and technical peer groups to assist with daily troubleshooting of issues, and integration of other applications within the Active Directory environment. Familiarity with standard operating procedures and best practices in the listed technology areas, as well as the ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals is preferred.

The duties and responsibilities of the position are as follows:

 Function as team lead for Active Directory / Windows Server environment, provide oversight on daily activities to set priorities, function as mentor, help with problem escalation, and communicate significant problems or issues to management  Function as a technical resource regarding Active Directory / Windows Server issues to messaging administrators, programmers, web developers, network security engineers, database analysts, network managers, and implementation teams  Manage and administer the Active Directory environment  Manage and administer split-brain DNS services  Manage and administer DHCP services  Manage and administer NTP services  Manage auditing technologies and tools, and provide reports, as needed  Implement and manage auditing and security policies and procedures  Manage and support SCCM and WSUS, for both servers and desktops  Manage File and Print services  Manage and support Active Directory and File and Print backups  Participate in the identification of vulnerabilities and their mitigation

 Provide expertise on Active Directory integration  Participate in the design and implementation of future infrastructure systems and services  Create and maintain documentation on SOPs and System Design  Research, evaluate, recommend and implement new technologies  Maintain effective communications with vendors, peers and clients in support of assigned projects  Perform capacity planning, upgrades and expansion of Active Directory environment
