Dear Saranac Parents

Dear Saranac Parents,

It is hard to believe that our summer camp trip to Saranac Village is only five weeks away! On behalf of the Young Life family (staff, volunteer leaders, and committee members), we want to express how thrilled we are to have had your child involved in Young Life this school year and going with us this summer! We have a great team of adult and college-age leaders looking forward to spending the best week of their lives with your son or daughter and his or her friends. Here are several details concerning the week:

DEPARTURE AND RETURN: At this point, our plan for departure is to leave at 6:00pm on Saturday, June 6th from the Columbia Mall on Two Notch Road, and to return around 1:00pm on Saturday, June 13th to the same location. Please ensure that your son or daughter eats dinner before departure on June 6th as we will not be stopping anywhere that night. As you plan for trips this summer before or after Saranac, be sure to keep those times in mind.

BALANCE OF THE TRIP: Most students have signed up with a $150 deposit. The total cost of the trip is $725, leaving most students with a balance of $575. An additional $350 (totaling $500 towards the cost of the trip) will be due by May 14th. The final balance will be due prior to departure on June 6th. All checks should be made payable to “Young Life”. You may mail a check to PO Box 5772, Columbia, SC 29250, or pay online by following the link on our website: columbiasc.younglife.org.

HEALTH FORMS: We must have a Camping Health, Consent, and Release Form filled out for your child in the event that an accident may occur at camp. We certainly would make every effort to contact you if medical attention is needed. The Consent Form is included in this letter; however, it is easier for everyone involved if you fill out the form online. The link to the online form is on our website at columbiasc.younglife.org. Simply click the link, create an account, select “Create Form,” and complete all information to the best of your ability. You will need to enter the camp name (Saranac Village), dates attending (June 7-12), and “home area” (SC22). Further, New York State requires a “Medication Rider” in addition to the standard Young Life health and consent form to be completed by the prescribing physician for any prescribed medications that your child will be taking while at camp.

PARENT MEETING: We will be having our parent meeting on Thursday, May 14th at 6:00pm at the Young Life Office (1612 Marion Street, Suite 309). This is the Cason Group building, on the block between Taylor and Blanding Streets, across from the Palmetto Baptist Hospital parking garage. We will show a brief video, discuss the itinerary, and answer any questions you may have.
