MLA CITATION for research reports Notice ALL indentations, commas, semi-colons, etc. They are exact and must be written that way to be correct. If you have further questions, refer to the book on my desk, The Brief Holt Handbook, for help. The MLA section has a post-it note on it.

BOOK

Last name (author), First name (author). Title of Book. Publishing city: Publishers, year it was published.

Book example:

Bettelheim, Bruno. The Uses of Enchantment: The Meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales. New York: Knopf, 1976.

Within the text:

“Quote,” (Author’s last name Year)

Example:

“Fairy tales reflect the emotions and fears of children” (Bettelheim 23). OR According to Bettelheim, “Fairy tales reflect the emotions and fears of children” (23).

**If quoting the same source/book/website in the same paragraph or subsequent paragraphs, you do NOT need to write the author’s name in parentheses repeatedly. You only need to put the page numbers in parentheses.** WEBSITE

Last name, first name (of site’s maker). Name of Website. Day Month Year (site was updated last). Day Month Year (you accessed site) .
